1e4 e6 2 d4 d5 3 Nd2 Nf6 4 e5 Ne4?! (This is not a very good variation of the Tarrasch French for Black) 5 Bd3 Nxd2 (notice that Black's kingside is now bare) 6 Bxd2 c5 7 c3 Qb6 8 Nf3 Nc6 9 O-O (White is willing to sacrifice a pawn for attacking chances against the Black king) 9...cxd4 10 cxd4 Nxd4 (Qxb2!? came into consideration: 11 Qa4 Qb6 12 Rab1 Qc7 13 Rfc1 with the idea of Bb5, Be3, Nd2, and f2-f4 when White has good compensation for the pawn) 11 Be3 (11 Nxd4?! Qxd4 12 Bb5+ Bd7 13 Bxd7+ Kxd7 and White has run out of attackers and Black can connect his rooks with the simple 14...Be7) 11...Nxf3+ 12 Qxf3 Bc5 (...d4 13 Bxd4! Qxd4 14 Bb5+ Ke7 (Kd8 or Bd7 lose to Rad1 +-) 15 Qa3+ Kd8 16 Rad1 Bxa3 17 Rxd4+ Ke7 18 bxa3 is a good endgame for White; Black has trouble developing his rook and bishop) 13 Qg3! Kf8?! (13...Bxe3 14 fxe3 O-O was the lesser evil) 14 b4! (now black's king will be on a semi-open file as ...Qxb4 loses to Rab1) 14...Bxe3 15 fxe3 Bd7 16 Rf4 Be8 17 Raf1 Rc8 18 Qf2 Qc7 19 Bb5? (over hasty, 19 a4 was a simple way to continue the attack with the idea of guarding the bishop when it goes to b5) 19...f5! 20 exf6 e.p g5! (White had seen this defense for Black but underestimated Black's defensive resources after the exchange sacrifice by White) 21 Bxe8 gxf4 22 Ba4?!! (Black was in severe time pressure so White wanted to win but 22 f7 was an easy way to bail out with a draw after 22...Rxe8+ 23 fxe8/Q+ Kxe8 24 Qxf4 the game is dead even-trying to keep the material looks gruesome for Black as White's pawn is on the seventh rank and Black's h8-rook is out of play) 22...Rg8 23 Qh4 Rg6! 24 f7! fxe3?? (24...Kxf7 25 Qxh7+ Rg7 26 Rxf4+ Qxf4 27 Qh5+ is obviously bad for Black, but 24...Rg7 leaves White with an uphill struggle, 25 Be8 is White's best try but this move has a lot less value than it would have on move 22, the move played by Black loses immediately-an unfortunate time pressure blunder) 25 Qxh7 Qe5 26 Qxg6 e2 27 Qg8+ 1-0 (Black resigned in view of 27...Ke7 28 f8/Q+ Rxf8 29 Qxf8++) (Notes by Justin Daniel)
