The CMSCA Grade Championship will be held Saturday, December 13th at Olympic High School.

REGISTRATION:

Online registration is preferred; registration and payment via Paypal (credit card or bank account) will be accepted through 6:00 p.m. on December 12, 2014. 


Registration on site is between 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on the date of the tournament. 

Registration after 8:45 a.m. will result in a 1st round bye. Cash, credit card, and checks accepted.

SECTIONS:

4SS: K-1; 2; 3; 4; 5; 6; 7; 8. 
3SS: 9; 10; 11; 12. 

 

Depending on attendance, sections may be combined (a minimum of 9 players are required to support a separate section). Players wishing to play in a higher section than their current grade level must indicate this on their registration. In the case of a combined section consisting of several grade levels, individual awards will still be made for each grade.

ROUND TIMES:

Grades K-8: 9:15 a.m.; 11:00 a.m.; 1:00 p.m.; 2:45 p.m. 

Grades 9-12: 9:15 a.m.; 11:45 a.m.; 2:15 p.m. 

Award Ceremony follows completion of final round.

TIME CONTROLS: Grades K-8: Game/45. 
Grades 9-12: Game/60.
FORMAT: Swiss System
RATING SYSTEM: Quick and Regular.
ENTRY FEE:

$20.00 if pre-registered by December 13, 2013. $25.00 before 8:45 a.m. on the date of the tournament.

PRIZES:

Trophies for top five places in each grade level K-8 and top three in grades 9-12. There will also be a trophy for the top kindergartner in the K-1 section. Players tied for trophies who lose on standard tiebreaking calculations will receive medals. Team trophies for the top two teams in sections K-1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The top three scores for any team will count toward the trophy. Students from same team may play each other, if necessary.

BYE REQUESTS:

One half-point bye allowed, except in the last round. Registration after 8:45 a.m. uses this bye for round one. We must be notified in advance of byes. Byes will be posted for pre-registrations on the web and on the wall charts after each round; correction requests are the responsibility of the player.

OTHER INFORMATION:

This tournament is open to all students enrolled in Kindergarten through 12th grade. All participants must have USCF membership current for the duration of the tournament (expiration date of January 2015 or later). Membership can be purchased at the tournament. PLAYERS SHOULD BRING THEIR OWN CHESS SETS, CLOCKS AND NOTATION PADS. Concessions and chess equipment will be available for purchase on site.
