The 2010 North Carolina "Open" hosted 205 players at the Holiday Inn-Airport in Charlotte. In the Top Section, IM Bryan Smith from Pennsylvania, finished clear 1st Place with 4.5-.5 and pocketed $1,200. Equal 2nd-6th with 4-1 were GM Sergey Kudrin of Connecticut, IM Kazim Gulamali of Georgia, IM Oladapo Adu from Maryland, NM Richard Francisco of Georgia and SM Craig Jones who was crowned official 2010 North Carolina Open Champion each winning $450.

Honorable mention goes to CCC member Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton of Charlotte who took Clear 1st Place in the Under 1600 Section with 4.5-.5 and took home $600! In addition, CCC member "Smokin" Corey Frazier finished 3rd-8th with 4-1 and won $185! And finally, current student of the Fuerstman School of Chess, Bill "Mindweeder" Wright scored 3-2 in the Under 1900 section and gained 99 points!

Considering that we have other major events in North Carolina which accommodate Titled players such as the LPO and LoTS, maybe next year the powers that be will consider converting this back to a "closed" event thereby keeping all of the money in the state...

Special thanks to Chief TD Tom Hales of Asheboro who maintained positive control and congratulations to all of the officers/volunteers of the NCCA who collectively rolled with the punches and conducted a well run event!
