Another Great Year for the Charlotte Chess Club!
by NM Leland Fuerstman

I am pleased to announce that your Charlotte Chess Club has flourished over the past year! Our numbers continue to climb as they have for the past 3 years! Our 73 current members make us the largest "adult" chess club in the south! But, another CCC is right on our heels!? (The Columbia Chess Club currently boasts 64 members, so we need to pay attention...) we accumulate new members by producing a great product! The CCC website provides the most comprehensive display of "current" chess information in the south. Our Message Board informs our readers with a "different" viewpoint which is sorely needed! Our Upcoming Events page, on which organizers may post for FREE, is a valuable tool for weekend warriors, a colorful description of our weekly club results is always promptly posted and there are features which no other chess website has! I take a lot of pride in keeping it current and accurate!

As for our venue, the centrally located Skyland Family Restaurant has more than adequately served our needs for the past 5 years! Skyland 50 means that we have visited the restaurant 250 weeks in a row!! (And, I still haven't eaten everything on their menu!) The food is great and well priced! The management and our waitress, Cathy, constantly refilling our coffee cups, are very helpful and friendly; and our private room always makes for an enjoyable evening of great food, friendly discourse and one rated game of chess at 7:45pm. Many have stated to me that they "can't wait for Wednesday to roll around" always anxious to solve Sinanovic's Puzzle (occasionally provided by NM LF or PMc)
and visit with their friends! Then, bright and early the following morning, the results are always posted with images, games and other anecdotes! That's why we charge a bit more; we provide much more than any other chess club in this area!!

"Regardless of skill level or experience, each member is treated equally with dignity and respect." So, this year, for the first time ever, a player who was NOT in the Top Section, Mikey Trott, won the honor of 2013 Player of the Year! Who knows, next year, it could be you!!

For those of you who may not have ever visited the CCC, we cordially invite you to stop by and join us to dine, socialize with other adults and play one rated game of chess. We will meet on Thursday, Dec 26 and Thursday Jan 2... then it's back to Wednesdays!

I wish to, again, thank each individual member for being part of the Charlotte Chess Club and hope to see you at the Charlotte Winter Open this Saturday, December 28

I pray for peace in 2014. I love you all,

Leland & Freddy (21) & my 3 sons Mischa (37), Joe (35) & Sammy (33) and my 4 grand kids Sydney Elizabeth (11), Nate (9), Ike (6) and Linus (3)!
Happy Holidays to Everyone!
