Open Letter To All Area Chess Players:
After more than 40 years of being involved in organized chess
, (I was Vice President of the Decatur (GA) Chess Club in 1973 where I "invented" the weekly 5 rounder!) I can finally say that we have found a perfect home for our purposes! McAlister's Deli is a spacious and well appointed restaurant with a menu that offers something for every pallet! "Delicatessen style" means that you don't pay a tip! (it is actually cheaper and better than Skyland!) Even though, the waitress still attends to our needs (so, give her one!) Every player who participated last week had nothing but positive things to say about the cuisine. Over 200 parking spaces behind the building make it quite convenient to park! In order to conform to business hours, we have changed our round time to 7:30pm sharp! Out by 10:30. And, the new time control is G75. Now, the bad news!? It has been over 15 years since the CCC raised it's rates. Therefore, as of May 28, 2014, the new rate to play one rated game at the CCC is $5.
However, McAlister's I guarantees a $300 payback! Besides, the Charlotte Chess Club website: www.charlottechess.com which contains updated lists, international and national news, narratives of previous meetings, tons of games every week, many images and other anecdotes, is the most concise and up to date source of chess news in North Carolina, period! Our annual fee of $25 is quite competitive compared to other chess organizations which provide far less... (maybe I should increase that, too! LOL) - At McAlister's Deli, there is a lamp over every table!! Next Wednesday, not only do we have use of all of the tables against the wall on the left side, but we have also reserved the entire section of booths directly next to us!!! So, when you arrive, occupy those booths, first! In effect, we will have tables available for 60 players! If you have never visited the Charlotte Chess Club, this is a perfect opportunity to dine, socialize, play one rated game at 7:30pm and win $$$! Everyone is welcome -We never discuss chess politics at the CCC; that is reserved for websites and message boards. - So, please  tell Giannatos and Newsom they are invited to participate in this event for FREE! And, if they were to, that may encourage more of our guys to play in their events! I'll see you at McAlister's! Let's break some records, people!
