The Charlotte Chess Club is the premier "adult" chess club in the southeast.  The CCC is open to players of every race, color, creed, national origin, gender, religion, political affiliation or galaxy!  As a CCC member, you are expected to treat your fellow members equally, with dignity and respect regardless of skill level or experience. In accordance with the standards of good sportsmanship, all members are asked to shake hands before and after each game! If during play, a possible rules violation occurs, you must first, stop your clock and report the situation to the Tournament Director. (A loud verbal confrontation over the rules is a distraction to everyone) The TD will make the necessary ruling.  If a noise distraction occurs, you may stop your clock, turn to the "minor noise violators" and silently place your finger over your lips! After the "talkers" acknowledge your complaint, you resume your game. All postmortem analysis must be moved to an area away from games which are still in progress. Anyone who violates these rules will receive 10 lashes with a wet noodle... Have fun!!  NMLF

FSC Student of the Week!
Charlotte, NC 4-24-16: Last year, I was contacted by a gentleman who indicated that he had ALS and was unable to walk and speak. But, he could think and read and wanted to learn to play better chess! Since then, Angelo Sciulli (1215) has become a force with whom to be reckoned in the Lower Section! Just ask Eric "Truth" Hartung (1300) who just lost a revenge game. (See Game 1667) {incomplete} Keep up the great play, Angelo! If you want to ride to Rock Hill and play a tournament game with him, E-mail cdc601@yahoo.com -

McAlister's XX Begins
Charlotte, NC 4-20-16:
A moderate turnout of 26 of the most competent calculators in the Charlotte area converged upon this five star restaurant more commonly known as McAlister's Deli in order to enjoy a wonderful meal, socialize with other adults and participate in Rd:1 of McAlister's XIX. In the Top Section, NM Shawn "Tater" Pealer (2163) went to the wire with Michael "Bolton" Kliber (1996) reducing the position to 2 passed Pawns vs. 1 Bishop (See Game) to share the lead with the Pride of Mental Hill, ex-Member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2028) who exacted revenge by snagging a Pawn on move 7 and winning a piece on move 15 (See Game 1664) versus Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1790) and newly crowned Expert Michael Uwakwe (2017) who grabbed a piece and won a marathon against Dawuud "Richman" Richards (1742) each with 1-0. In addition, NM Pat "Birthday Boy" Sciacca (2093) switched a Knight for a couple of Pawns (See Game 1665) and squeezed out a Draw against superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1810). In the "B" Section, new CCC member Julio Echevarria (1733) got George "Cashman" Cashell (1600) into time trouble and finally pushed through to share the lead with "Lord" Byron Butler (1665) who outplayed Carl "Marx" McKern (1528) each with 1-0. {Special thanks to Scott LaPorte, Francois Gros & NM Pat Sciacca for providing, or offering to provide transportation for "Lord" Byron!} In the "C" Section, both having abandoned their score sheet, Scott "the Door" LaPorte (1454) reported that his opponent, "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1400) had moved "twice!?" When it all got sorted out, they agreed to an OCB Draw to share the lead with Francois "the Pope" Gros (1402) who made peace with Addison Shonts (1281) each with .5-.5. In the Lower Section, FSC Student Michael "Tiger" Lyons (1023) overlooked checkmate but went on to defeat Emmanuel Cooper (953) to lead with 1-0. In addition, with seconds remaining and an extra Bishop, Rich "Alert" Trela (1072) claimed "non losing chances" against Alex Rambo-Navarrete (1281) which was granted while Charlene "Curley" Howard (995) was winning in time trouble but made an illegal move whereupon (after some confusion with the clock), a very gracious Debs Pedigo (1291) agreed to a Draw. In order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable." The CCC will conduct Rd:2 of McAlister's XX on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at McAlister's Deli, 4805 Park Rd. Round begins at 7:30 sharp! So, get there early and enjoy a wonderful meal or dine while you play! Thank you for participating in CCC competition! NMLF
Wong, Cremisi =1st-2nd in Carlsen, Billings 1st in Kramnik Section of Big Cookie X
Charlotte, NC 4-9-16: A moderate turnout of 18 of the most loyal members of the CCC Royal Guard congregated at this grand ballroom more commonly known as McAlister's Deli in order to participate in Big Cookie X. In the Carlsen Section, which included no less than 3 USCF certified National Masters, 17 year old NM Tianqi Wong (2308) dispatched of Dawuud "Richman" Richards (1731) in Rd:1, Tim Rankin (1932) in Rd:2 and after a long, drawn out ending, split the point with 15 year old NM Daniel Cremisi (2276) in the final round who shared =1st-2nd Place after defeating Xiaodong Jin (1763) in Rd:1 and NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2039) in Rd:2 each scoring 2.5-.5 and winning $75. In the Kramnik Section, Julian Billings (1541) from Roaring Gap, NC took a Half Point Bye in Rd:1, "dovetail" mated Doug Mackey (1380) in Rd:2 (See Game 1660) and somehow turned the tables on Drew "Morrison" Canning (1432) in the final round to finish clear 1st Place with 2.5-.5 and pocket $80. In order to observer all results, see (Crosstable). An enjoyable time was had by all. Fuerstman directed.
