Chess Club,
an Affiliate of the USCF
meets each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!)
at The Seafarer, 9306 Albemarle Rd. (Just past Walmart at Harrisburg Rd. on right) Charlotte, N.C. The club conducts a perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:30pm. The time control is G90 - Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) In 4 Sections: Top $200, "B" $100, "C" 100, Lower $100. The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) NCCA ($5) membership is required. The venue guarantees a private room with plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking, limited smoking in the "bar" and friendly management?! Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC occasionally sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss and other special tournaments. NEWS & VIEWS 8-7-08Mabe Leads Top; Wheeless "B"; Hales "C"; Gatlin, Frazier Lower Section of Seafarer I (Just look for the 3-D Whale!!) Charlotte, NC 8-6-08: A slightly stronger turnout of 15 defectors broke ranks and promptly reported to their new duty station where well fed chessplayers fight mental battles more commonly known as the Seafarer in order to enjoy a delicious meal just prior to and during Rd:4 of Seafarer I. In the Top Section, the CCC's #2 player, 2008 North Carolina  and South Carolina Champion NM Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2261) played a rare variation of the Dragon
and then simply waited for his opponent, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman
(2000) to self-distruct (See Game 0748) to lead with 2.5-.5.
Meanwhile, Samuel "Xman" Xin (1962) clobbered Expert Michael
"Bolton" Kliber (2000) and Gary
"Sandbagger" Branton (1950)
prevailed in the end versus Team
Asheboro's 13 year
old upstart Jordan "Tiger" Wood (1773). In the "B" Section, NCCA President Randy "Wheels" Wheeless (1664)  bought
some vowels from Nathaniel "E's" Eerenberg (1486) to lead with 2-2. In the "C" Section, Team Asheboro's Tom "Terrific" Hales (1580) split the point with Adam "Counselor Jr" Clontz (1553) to lead with 3-1. In
addition, Andrew "Lefty" Turner (1467) beat down Lee "Roger"
Moore (1126). In the Lower Section, despite the fact that he
lost to Charles "Tenor" Carerros (1168), Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1284) still shares the lead
with "Smokin" Corey Frazier
with 3-1.
