083 - 4/11/2005 North Carolina had an OK showing at the SuperNationals, obviously the level of play is higher than "States" because the stakes are so high. To begin with, in the K-1 Ken Chu tied for 3rd and got 5th overall on tiebreaks, he was undefeated the until the last round where he lost to an 1100. In the K-5 Josh Mu tied for 12th and Samuel Xin tied for 23rd. In the K-8 Thomas Paradis got 2nd(!), the best result of any North Carolinian. In the K-9, Frank Mu tied for 7th and Laura Lee tied for 34th. Finally in the K-12, Adam Holmes tied for 10th with a win over an expert in the last round, Nelson Lopez got 23rd and nearly became champion but a loss in the last round threw him out of contention. Noah Black and Matt Green also tied for 23rd with 5-2.

A few triumphs and a few disappointments, but that is scholastic chess, and for many there is always next year. NM Daniel Tapia
