110 - A Party for
Charlotte's own "Polgar Sisters"
Each state is allowed to send one entrant, usually their best female player under 19. BUT North Carolina has TWO entrants, both from Charlotte: Amelia Wheeless qualified for the Polgar as our NC representative by being co-champion of the NC All Girls Open in May with her sister, Colette. Colette graciously allowed Amelia to go to Phoenix as the NC representative. In an incredible turn of events, Laura Lee was later chosen as a wild-card entry by Susan Polgar herself. We are going to honor these three very special young ladies with a party on July 23rd from 11-4 at the Matthews Presbyterian Church. This event will also be the centerpiece of a fundraising effort to help them with expenses in attending the tournament. To read the flyer on the party, go to www.homeschoolchess.com/. The NCCA and the Polgar Foundation have each provided some expense money for Amelia and Laura, but it won't come close to covering everything. We don't believe their families should have to pay for them to represent us, so voluntary donations to the Polgar Expense Fund are being accepted and can be made in one of at least four ways:
