The Asheboro Open is located in
the geographic center of North Carolina. It is a reasonable drive
from Charlotte, Fayetteville, Raleigh, or most anywhere in the
state! Folks in the triad area can make the trip in 30 minutes or
less! Our tournaments are also "friend friendly." Bring your
friends, and you won't be paired against them unless absolutely
necessary (by request at registration). Who wants to play the
same person you face each week at your local chess club? Your BIG TOURNAMENT experience will include premium facilities at Days Inn with a separate skittles area. Expect computerized pairings, quickly rated tournaments, and rounds that start reasonably on time. Of course, no BIG TOURNAMENT experience would be complete without a generous prize fund. While we don't offer unrealistic “based on” guarantees, you can look at our track record and judge for yourself what to expect. We award 80% or better in prizes based on 30 entries or more. This will be adjusted in the event of fewer entries, but expect fairness always. You never know who will show up at The Asheboro Open! It's a virtual who's who of NC Chess: we've seen strong players such as Chris Mabe, John Timmel, and NM Craig Jones (just to name a few!). David Pecora (USCF 2098) has preregistered for August 13th. David is not only an expert chess player, but also one of the friendliest you will meet. We appreciate his commitment to play. At The Asheboro Open, we cater to players of all strengths. No matter which section you compete in, you will be eligible for the same great prizes. You may not play like a grandmaster, but expect to be treated like one. The Asheboro Open III: Saturday, August 13th, 2005. Registration 8:55-9:45.
