Hey Leland and the CCC, I just want to let everyone know that I am starting a new chess club in Greensboro! It will be called the Laurin Keller Memorial Chess Club and it will meet every Thursday night from 6:00pm-10:00pm at the Folk Teen Center off of Clifton Rd. We will have our first USCF Quick Rated tournament there this thursday the 11th at 7:00pm. Tom Hales will be there to direct our first event!!! I am hoping to have a good number of people show up the first night. I know its kind of a late notice to charlotte players, but maybe one thursday night, someone in the charlotte area could be free, and travel to greensboro to play in a USCF event!! I am planning on having a tournament every thursday night, and may start having one round per week, like the CCC has. I hope some of the CCC members can travel up to Greensboro one thursday night a month to help Greensboro chess get back on the map! If we start having a great turnout, we might even be able to have a weekend tournament there, and have a good prize payout!! We just had our first USCF Quick tournament tonight, and it was a success! I will start having a G/75 1 round per week tournament, starting in October. It will be called the October Open, and the entry fee is just $5!!!! The money will go towards the tournament being rated, and some supplies for the club. If I can get enough players committed every Thursday night, then I will be able to do a prize payout, if enough players join! But we will be having a quick rated tournament every Thursday night, until October comes around, then it will be G/75 for a whole month!!! I hope to see some more players come out next Thursday night, or maybe in October. We had a light turnout of 7 players play tonight in the Quick tournament.
