Whatever happened to the North Carolina State Championship?? And, since we already have the LPO, Land of the Sky and many other major "open" events in North Carolina, why is it necessary to allow out-of-state players to ruin the soverignty of our State Championship? Back in the 70's, the NCCA constitution, (which is nowhere to be found on their website and no longer even seems to exist), required that a "closed tournament be conducted each year in order to determine our State Champion." (Remember: "only residents, full time students & military personel are allowed to compete"). It is inherently unfair for a NC contender to be required to play an out-of-state player who may spoil his chances to win the crown?! Why or when that bylaw was changed is not important. Our new administrators must make the correction for the good of all North Carolina players. - And, while we are on the subject, why is it necessary to farm out our State Championship to an out-of-state promoter who is sure to profit greatly from the event, as usual, with the efficient assistance of an all North Carolina crew?? Look, I've known Thad Rogers for over 30 years! He already runs the LPO and the Land of the Sky; but our state championship is different! The responsibility of conducting this tournament falls upon the officers of the NCCA. To allow an out-of-state promoter to reap the reward$ of our State Championship when there are so many other competent promoters/directors in North Carolina is difficult to understand?! Wake up, people. Do the right thing and insist these changes be made. Oh, while you're at it, you might want to include a "Mission Statement" on the website as well as updating the membership database by deleting members who expired years ago and reflect the names and E-mail addresses of "current members only." Good luck this weekend. LF |
