Leland,
I really enjoyed our game.  (See Game 0936)  Eric Murrah ran an analysis on it with a phone app he has and according to the software he had, neither one of us truly had an edge larger than about .6 during the entire game.  It gave me an edge of 1.5 at a certain point, but following its suggested moves, that 1.5 faded with each passing move until the best it could find for me was about a .4 edge.  It actually said that the move "g5" for me towards the end when you were threatening mate was playable, but I do not have the intestinal fortitude for such things.

I hope I did not offend by not accepting your draw offer.  I never felt like I was better to the point of being winning, although I do feel like I had an edge at one point, as did you later in the game.  The reason I did not accept your draw offers was because I just felt like the position was too fascinating to not be explored further.  My curiosity got the better of me and I had to play it out to see what would happen.  I think the second time you offered me a draw I thought on it for a good 5 minutes or so before deciding to play on (I believe it was the move right after you castled long and I played Bd7.)  Anyway I felt like the game had the potential of being an epic one, one way or the other, because it was so rich in possibilities and dangers for both sides, so I thought it would be a shame to have not played it out to a definitive conclusion (although nearing the end of the game I was really kicking myself for having thought that way and not just taking the draw).  Anyway, I very much enjoyed the game, the food, and the fellowship, and I hope to make it back soon.  Viva la CCC!

Considering the serendipity of my recent results, I rarely offer "Draw" UNLESS I'm not absolutely certain about the outcome of a complicated position against a strong player! (or, in some cases, a weaker player!) Frankly, in the opening, after my return from the bathroom, I literally "forgot" that I could capture EP!?? My position appeared to be in extreme difficulty until I discovered 14 Ng5!! which seemed to equalize! After 15 Ne6! the Draw offer seemed to be legitimate. Your determination to "play the position out" indicates a trait which is more commonly observed in Masters! I sure am glad you guys are back in the mix... maybe that will encourage more of Charlotte's stronger players to return to participate at the CCC!
Thanks for a great game.
