Leland,
First
off, I just want to see how you're doing. Secondly, I visit
your site very regularly and I enjoy reviewing the top board game every
week. I was looking over your game briefly against Paul Lucas
that you played last night and I'm not sure if you missed it or not,
but
on move 23 you played Nxh8, which isn't a bad move by all means,
but I
think you missed a devastating blow with 22. Ne7+!! (double check). Of
course black has to play Kh7 and I was looking at the
next two moves for white with either Bc2+ or Qh5+. Both look
pretty
nasty but im not going to go through all of the variations. I'll leave
that up to you. Anyway,
I
would
love to attend your club on a weekly basis, or heck, even once
a month. With the way gas prices are, Charlotte seems a little out of
my reach for a 1 round weekly rated game. However, I do keep up with
the CCC and I miss attending your club like I used to back in the day.
Keep up with the great work and also the great play! No
matter
what
anybody says about you or how you run your club, I still
respect your club and you as a person and a chess player. Hopefully one
day, we will see each other over the board!
Your
friend,
Josh Lawson *************************************************************** Lawman: Thanks for the kind words. I am happy to report that I am in excellent health. I play golf regularly and try to stay in shape. As for my latest encounter with Lucas (See Game 0960), I considered 23 Ne7 but it doesn't win the Queen nor lead to mate and White is already a Rook down. After 24 Bc2 f5! and the position is unclear. And, 24 Qh5 Kg7 holds for Black. What I missed was 24 Qf6! followed by Qf7 winning a whole Rook and shortening the conclusion! Lucas probably should have captured the Bishop back on move 22 where White would have mopped up a bunch of Pawns. Our games are always interesting... hey, the guy beat me a few weeks ago!? Glad you are keeping up with us here in Charlotte. I have monitored your progress for years. You should be very proud of yourself for achieving the Expert Title and maintaining the rating. I would consider playing a short match with you! Think about that and let me know. Best regards, Leland |
