    Greetings from Charlotte N.C, USA, Earth to everyone out there in cyberia, and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. We have finally entered the ultra modern age of instant communication. In this column, which is updated every Thursday, we will strive to report a weekly synopsis of the previous meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening pleasure. Our goal is to eventually provide our members with a "realtime" site which will instantly produce current information about chess with the click of a mouse! We welcome your comments and contributions

Newton Moves to Front in Top; Lipkin, McKern Middle; Frueh, Walker Lower Section of Wendy's XXXI
Charlotte, NC 12-19-01: Thirty-two chessplayers dressed in Santa outfits participated in Rd:2 of Wendy's XXXI. In the Top Section, with the Black pieces, CCC's #1 player, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2233) outflanked Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1886) to lead with 1.5-.5. One half point behind are NM Leland "El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2009) and NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2005) who split the point and CCC Favorite Son, 2001 NC High School Champion, 17 year old phenom, Expert (and soon to be Master) Justin "Dog" Daniel (2185) who dispatched of mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1757). In addition, Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1780) drew with David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1858). In the Middle Section, Carl "Codes" McKern (1578) bested Danesh Dadgar (1472) to lead with 2-0. Meanwhile, Mike "Priapism" Eberhardinger (1675) slipped by "CEO" Mike Isner (1436), Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1605) handled Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1625) and Euphemia "Screamer" Mu (1502) shared the point with Deneil "Slick" Brazell (1342). In the Lower Section, leading with 2 points are Curt "World B" Frueh (1239) who defeated Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla (1286) and Paul "Johnny" Walker (1164) who handled Don Norwood (967). Other Lower Section winners were: Ankit Jivan, Copeland Blackwell, Todd Essex, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin, Frank Mu and Frank Hatcher. All results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable." Cunningham Sweeps Smokehouse XXII

Charlotte, NC 12-15-01: Fifteen weekend warriors participated in Smokehouse XXII. In the Top Section, a strong contengent from Greensboro led by NM Robin Cunningham (2268) and Mark Smith-Soto (2062) demonstrated their skills against a rather weak field of locals. Cunningham snapped off wins against Chris Mabe (1705), Patrick McCartney (1886) and Howard Hamilton (1471) respectively taking home $100. Clear 2nd Place with 2.5-.5, Smith-Soto bested Jerome "Cookie Monster" DeBell (1675), yielded a Draw to NM L. Fuerstman and finally defeated Patrick McCartney pocketing $50. First Place in the Lower Section with 3-0 was Deneil "Slick" Brazell (1342) who won $40. Second with 1.5-1.5 was Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1469) who pocketed $20.
