How would you like to be
paired with this guy in the first round?! This is the image of 62 year
old Ex-World Champion GM Robert
James Fischer taken during his recent flight from Japan to
Iceland. I'm glad that he is now a free man; however, Considering some of his
recent statements, I probably won't be
inviting him to my grandson's Bar Mitzva! - LF

Runaway Freight Train
Out of Control as Newton Leads Top; A. Wheeless "B"; C. Wheeless
"C"; Hicks, Alexander Lower Section of Wendy's
LXV
Charlotte,
NC 4-20-05:
A seasonally light
turnout of only 28 of the
Metrolina area's most confident mental jousters
congregated at this laboratory where the arcane is exposed more
commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:4 of Wendy's LXV. In
the Top Section, the
winningest player in
CCC history, CCC's #2! player (now that IM Carlomagno
Oblitas has relocated), 2004
N.C. Invitational Champion,
NM Frankie "Neutrino" Newton (2295) AKA "the Gladiator"
came face to face with
the player listed as the "7th highest rated 18 year old in the
nation," CCC's #3 player, 3 consecutive time NC
Scholastic Champion NM Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2201) with the pride of Crouse,
N.C. steaming home to victory to lead with 4-0. (See
Game 0471). Meanwhile, with the Black pieces, NM
Leland "El-fuerte"
Fuerstman (2034)
successfully sacked a piece for pawns versus Expert Shawn "Arlo"
Pealer's (2055) Larson's Attack (See Game 0470), the good
Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1827) finally prevailed over
an intractable Jackie "Bman" Ryan (1727) and the good Dr. Gerard "the Butcher" Sztyber (1839) split the point with Michael "Jordan" Kliber (1912). In the "B" Section, Amelia "Wheels" Wheeless (1617) outplayed, and then
fired Donald "Trump" Hofer (1602) to lead with 3-1. In
addition, Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1710) sucker punched "Sponge"
Bob Moore (1700) and Paul "Survivalist"
Lucas (1702)
kicked Dave "Ameen" Eadie's (1597) butt. In the "C" Section, Colette "Wheels" Wheeless (1475) demonstrated her skills versus
Octavius "0-0" Obey (1511) to lead with 3-1.
Meanwhile, Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1511) squeeked by
Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1496) and Viktor
"the Mad Russian" Ozherelyev
(1538) made peace with Ankit "Butch"
Jivan (1632). In
the Lower Section, Tony "the Tiger" Hicks (1333) and Joseph "Stalin" Alexander (1022) each lead with 3 points.
Honorable mention to Joey "the Bull" Bullis (1285) (who just broke
the
CCC record for points gained in one
rating
period with 348!)
for upsetting 9 year old rising star Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin (1412).
Other Lower Section winners were: David Forehand. All

Causey, McCartney Share
Top Honors; Eadie Middle; Hashemloo, McLaughlin Lower Section of
Billy's III
Charlotte
NC 4-16-05: A moderate turnout of 24 of the Metrolina
area's most contageous competitors converged upon Billy's Restaurant
in order compete in Billy's III. Everyone
thoroughly enjoyed the
friendly
and professional wait staff and management, extraordinary reasonably
priced cuisine and modern sports bar design of the recently renovated
facility.
(Playing in a completely silent, upstairs private room seems to be a
welcome change, as well). In the Top Section,
upsets were the order of the day as SC Expert Keith "Chuckie" Eubanks
(2056) fell to 16 year old phenom Matthew "the Bean" Green (1903) (See Game 0468)
and NM Leland "El-free points, anyone?" Fuerstman (2034) was crushed by
the good Reverend Bernard
"King" Baker (1804). Meanwhile, in the first two rounds, David "the
Cause" Causey
(1933) from Charleston, SC dispatched of Ken "the Terrible" Ivens (1768) and the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1804) before
securing a hard earned Draw (See Game 0472) with Patrick
"Fabio" McCartney
(1989) who had defeated Gary "Sandbagger" Branton (1800) and Matthew
"the Bean" Green (1903) each with 2.5-.5
pocketing $75.
In the Middle Section, Dave "Ameen" Eadie
(1597) reeled off wins over Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin (1412), Asheboro
organizer Tom
Hales (1644) and Dan "Marino" Andrzjewski (1777) to score 3-0 and take
home $100.
Equal 2nd-4th were Octavius "0-0" Obey (1511), Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin and Dan "Marino" Andrzjewski each with 2-1
winning $17.
In the Lower Section, =1st-2nd were Duncan
"Doughnuts" McLaughlin (1269) and Hassan "HH"
Hashemloo
(1183) each with 2-1 pocketing
$30.
To observe all results view (Crosstable). See you at Billy's
IV, May 14.
