By NM Leland Fuerstman

McCartney Slows Fuerstman; Spencer Controls Middle, Tapia Perfect in Lower Section of Wendy's XV

Twenty-eight chess energumens first attempted to satisfy their palates with fine cuisine prepared according to Dave Thomas' recipe and then competed in Rd:4 of Wendy's XV (Upon my complaints and recommendation, the entire staff, manager included, has been summarily removed from our location! The only one left is Mr. Sam, and he still runs the place!?) In the Top Section, front-runner NM Leland Fuerstman (2058) will attempt to save an adjourned endgame versus Patrick McCartney (1917) whereby the latter player has an extra horse! On Bd:2, NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) yielded a draw to Gary "the nuisance" Newsom (1902) while Jeff Rayfield (1852) and David Jaap (1800) have adjourned. (Because of reasons still not completely understood, NM "WWF" Frankie Newton (2193) was unable to attend, once again postponing his two adjournments to the dismay of his gracious opponents.) In the Cruiserweight Division, Brandon Lee (1714) [whose USCF membership expired in February] outlasted Paul Calloway (1675). In the Middle Section, Thomas "Hitman" Hayes (1467) turned in the only win against "still" CCC Website Advisor Carl McKern (1510) while Jerome DeBell (1627) drew with Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1572) Finally,  "shuttleman" Darrell Spencer (1327) split the point with Slobodan Sinanovic (1493).  In the Lower Section, leader Daniel Tapia (970) scored his 4th consecutive victory with a well executed win over Michael "You Know You Make Me Wanna" Shoup (1127).  Also, in the Lower Section, wins were posted by Daryl "Flash" Gordon, Nick "Bam-Bam" Bambara, Brandon Brown, Winfred "Windy" Gatlin and David Roman. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable"

SM Pohl, NM Liu Share Top Honors; Samuel Christopher Sweeps Lower Section in Smokehouse V

Seventeen weekend warriors participated in Smokehouse V on Saturday, 6-3-00.  In the Top Section, SM Klaus Pohl (2200) from Greenville, S.C. (captured here doing his best Doc Watson impersonation) dispatched of Gary Newsom (1902) and Patrick McCartney (1917) before agreeing to a "quick" draw with NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) who had defeated Jerome DeBell (1627) and NM Leland Fuerstman (2058) respectively.  Each took home $75. In the Lower Section,  Samuel Christopher (1052) scored a perfect 3-0 to take home the 1st Place prize of $70. Equal 2nd-4th with a score of 2-1 were Darrell Spencer (1327), Pete Danker (1310) and Daniel Tapia (990) each winning $12.
