Laura Lee Earns Battlefield Promotion; Matriculates To Top Section!
Charlotte, NC 6-18-05:  As a result of her superb performance in Wendy's LXVI, 15 year old Laura "Karate Kid" Lee's rating has escaladed to 1805!  She has now earned the right to be the shuttle "person" in the Top Section of all CCC competition.  Congratulations, Laura. Keep up the great play! LF 
CCC NEWS & VIEWS 6-16-05

Newton, Mabe Lead Top; Hofer "B"; Obey, Gatlin "C"; Hashemloo Lower Section of Wendy's LXVII
Charlotte, NC 6-15-05:  A very strong turnout of 42 (6 short of the record) of the southern Piedmont area's most creative energumens clocked into work at this factory where chess champions are manufactured, more commonly known as Wendy's, in order to participate in Rd:2 of Wendy's LXVII. In the Top Section, the CCC's #2 player, the pride of Crouse, NC, NM Frankie "Neutrino" Newton (2295) AKA "the Gladiator"
successfully employed Alekhine's Defense versus NM Leland "El-Perro" Fuerstman (2000) to share the lead with Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2162) who defeated Jonathan "the Enforcer" Munnell (1768) each with 2-0. Meanwhile, Expert Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2050) used kryptonite on mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1794), Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (1997) beat down the good Reverend Bernard  "King" Baker (1873) (See Game 0485) and Michael "Jordan" Kliber (1911) clobbered Gary "Sandbagger" Branton (1831). In the "B" Section, Donald "Trump" Hofer (1605) pushed home a hard fought K&P ending versus Marty "Fritz" Katz (1683) to lead with 2-0. In addition, Amelia "Wheels" Wheeless (1672) prevailed over Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1663), "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1793) went to the wire with "Sponge" Bob Moore (1707) and Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1683) demolished Ankit "Butch Jivan (1643) (See Game 0484). In the "C" Section, Octavius "0-0" Obey (1507) outlasted Keith "Sherlock" Holmes (1434) and Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1463) converted  a beautiful pawn down ending against Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1481) (See Game 0486) to each lead with 2-0. Meanwhile, David "Haircut" Forehand (1575) notched the point against Colette "Wheels" Wheeless (1596), Adam "Esq. Jr" Clontz (1417) introduced the Matrix System to Ervon "Wooden" Nichols (1475), Ilgin "the Mad Turk" Birsan (1429) held off Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin (1488) and Kevin Huang (1519) initiated Thomas Harp (Unr). In the Lower Section, Hassan "HH" Hashemloo (1192) knocked out Chris Kohlhepp (1283) to lead with 2-0. Other Lower Section winners were: Copeland Blackwell, Joseph "Stalin" Alexander, Wei Xin, Matthew Hornberg and Tony Craig. Mabe Takes Top; Eadie Lower Section of Billy's V

An nice even number of 20 of the Metrolina area's most active mental jousters congregated at Billy's Restaruant on Saturday to participate in Billy's V. (The silent playing room, extraordinary food and excellent service was appreciated by all!) In the Top Section, Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2163) of Charlotte dispatched of Dan "Ski" Andrzejewski (1758) in Rd:1, Expert Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2050) in Rd:2 and split the point with Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1997) in the final round to take clear 1st Place with a score of 2.5-.5 and pocket $100. Equal 2nd-5th with 2-1 were Pealer, McCartney (See Game 0487), Ken "the Terrible" Ivens (1702) and Randy "Wheels" Wheeless (1664) each winning $12.50. In the Middle Section, Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1586) of Charlotte captured his 3rd consecutive Billy's Middle Section Title as he yielded a Draw to Duncan "Doughnuts" McLaughlin (1289) in Rd:1 and then posted back to back victories over Donald "Trump" Hofer (1554) in Rd:2 and Jacob Parrish (1657) in Rd:3 to take clear 1st Place with 2.5-.5 and take home $100. Equal 2nd-5th with 2-1 were Hofer, Parrish, Viktor "the Mad Russion" Ozherelyev, and Jeff McAdams each winning $12.50. In order to observe all results see (Crosstable).
