Greetings
from Charlotte N.C, USA, Earth to everyone out
there in cyberspace, and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. We
have finally entered into the ultra modern age of instant communication.
In this column, I will strive to report a weekly synopsis of the previous
meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other interesting
anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening pleasure.
Our goal is to eventually provide our members with a "realtime" site which
will instantly produce current information about chess with the touch of
a button! We welcome your comments and contributions

Attendance Record Falls Again as CCC Thrives:
Newton and Lombard Draw
A new attendance
record was established Wednesday evening for Rd:3 of Wendy's
VII as 38 of the Metrolina area's
most able minded competitors
challenged each other's calculatory skills in an attempt to assume the
Title of Champion. In the Top Section, tournament leaders
NM "Elect" William F. Frankie Newton, II (2150) and
"Ex-Expert" Ralph Lombard (1917) split the point to lead with
2.5-.5.
Close on their heels with 2 points is NM Leland Fuerstman (2000)
whose worthy opponent, Tarokh Taefi (1785) unfortunately overstepped the
time
limit. Also, in the Top Section, Gary
Newsom (1917) has adjourned against Justin Daniel
(1937) as have David Griffin (1685) and Patrick McCartney (1888). In the
Middle Section, Doug "REman" Millsaps (1620) bested
CCC Internal Affairs Committee Chairman Paul F. Lucas (1696), Mike Eberhardinger
(1621) handled Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton, David T. Richards (1700)
took care of Michael Graves (1598) and CCC Sergeant at Arms Jerome DeBell
(1493) defeated Joe Crump (1670). In the Lower Section,
Richard Tomlin (1505) {whom I now realize was mispaired
out of the Middle Section}, dispatched Suzanne Vigeland (Unr) while
Brandon Brown (1137) wrestled the point away from Steve Childress
(1143) in order to maintain a perfect 3-0! Other Lower Section winners
were Lee "R&Bman" Richardson, Helton Clavijo, Daryl Gordon, Joe
Ulaky, James Ulaky, CCC Lower Section Representative Alphonse Ashamalla,
newcomer Ian Morton and Daryl Spencer. All results
may be viewed in (Current Crosstable).
All CCC players welcome our two newest members, Deon
Hairston and Ian Morton.
Four Tie For First in
Midtown XXII
Sixteen
gutsy performers participated in Midtown XXII this Saturday past.
In the Top Section, the in-fighting was fierce as many games
were played out to the bitter end yielding draws. However, when the
smoke cleared, Frankie Newton (2162), NM Daniel Liu (2005),
Randy Lovelace (1967) and NM Leland Fuerstman (2018)
(Whose Rd:2 game vs. McCartney was postponed until Sunday at noon) each
ended with scores of 2-1 and pocketed $30. In the Lower Section,
Joe Crump (1670)
outdistanced the field with a Rd:3 draw versus top seed Paul Calloway (1736)
(See Game 0063) to score 2.5-.5
and take home $80. Entry fees were returned to Calloway and Richard
Tomlin (1505) each with 2-1. Fuerstman directed.

Newton Finishes
Strong At L.P.O; Ties for 1st in U2200 Section - Newsom and Millsaps Shine
CCC's favorite son, William F. "Frankie" Newton
II (2150)
may have gained those elusive last 50 rating
points toward mastery this past weekend at the L.P.O. as he scored a strong
4-1 to share the top honors with two others in the Under 2200 section,
each winning $444.50. Also, in that section, Gary Newsom (1917)
turned in a 3.5-1.5 to take 5th Place and $145. In the Under 1800
Section, Doug "REman" Millsaps (1620)
shared 3rd-5th Place with a score of 3.5-1.5 and took home $140.
(See Game 0059) Good work Team
Charlotte; bring home those rating points!
