    Greetings from Charlotte N.C, USA, Earth to everyone out there in cyberia, and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. We have finally entered the ultra modern age of instant communication. In this column, which is updated every Thursday, we will strive to report a weekly synopsis of the previous meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening pleasure. Our goal is to eventually provide our members with a "realtime" site which will instantly produce current information about chess with the click of a mouse! We welcome your comments and contributions

Daniel Takes Lead in Top; Gordon Middle; Jivan, Ulaky, Shirlen Lower Section of Wendy's XXIX
Charlotte, NC 10-10-01:Thirty pro-American chess players forwent watching the baseball playoffs and instead participated in Rd:2 of Wendy's XXIX.  In the Top Section, CCC Favorite Son and soon to be Master Justin "Dog" Daniel (2192) mauled Jon "Cigars" Pietras (1789) to lead with 2-0. Meanwhile, Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1956) outlasted NM Leland "El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2000) while David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1900) was outflanked by Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1917). In the Cruiserweight Division, Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1780) was upset by Doug "Sky Millsaps (1655). In the Middle Section, with the Black pieces, Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1628) glitched CCC Website Advisor Carl "Codes" McKern (1517) to lead with 2-0. In addition, Michael "Y" Shoup (1455) bested "CEO" Mike Isner (1491) while Brandon "EsqJr" Brown (1492) handled Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1473). In the Lower Section, Ankit Jivan, Joe "SticksJr" Ulaky and Joe Shirlen each lead with 2-0. Other Lower Section winners were: Nick :"BamBam" Bambara, Copeland Blackwell, G. Scott Edmiston, Curt Frueh and Fuerstman School of Chess student Don Norwood (765) who upset Paul Walker (1127). All results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable." (We now begin at 7:30pm sharp! Baxter, Tapia Share Top Honors in Smokehouse XIX
Charlotte, NC 9-15-01: Fourteen weekend warriors participated in Smokehouse XIX. In the Top Section, Kenneth "Beans" Baxter  (1922) got by Marnzell Hand (1607) and Jeff Rayfield (1840) before agreeing to a GM Draw with 15 year old phenom Daniel "Johnny Tapia (1897) to score 2.5-.5 and pocket $75. Tapia clicked off wins against Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1474) and NM Leland Fuerstman (2027) to equal the top score of 2.5-.5 and take home $75. The four man Lower Section was swept by Deneil Brazell (1300) who scored a perfect 3-0 and won $40. Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1208) was clear 2nd with 2-1 winning $20. Honorable mention goes to Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1270) who upset Marnzell Hand (1607) and Drew with NM Daniel "S" Liu (2011). (Fuerstman directed) Next Smokehouse October 20. See ya' there!
