Newton 3-0; "Bear" Mauls "Kamikaze;" E. Mu, Gatlin Still Perfect in Wendy's XXVIII
Charlotte, NC  9-12-01-01: An understandably light turnout of only 37 observed a "moment of silence" for those who perished at the hands of evil men, and then participated in Rd:3 of Wendy's XXVIII. In the Top Section, NM Frankie Newton (2190) outplayed CCC Favorite Son Expert Justin "Dog" Daniel (2150) to lead with 3-0. A full point behind is NM Leland "El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2027) who administered just enough kryptonite to mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1808). In the "Battle of the David's," with the Black pieces, David "Bear" Griffin (1661) upset David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1863). In the Middle Section, (with an) "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1690) outdistanced  Paul "Big Bertha" Calloway (1630) causing a double bogey?! In addition, Brandon "EsqJr" Brown (1440) was upset by Michael "Y" Shoup (1223), Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1562) caned Danesh Dadgar (1453) and Marnzell Hand (1607) ousted "CEO" Mike Isner (1455). In the Lower Section with perfect 3-0 scores,Euphemia "Screamer" Mu (1276) and Winfred "Windy" Gatlin (1219) will face each other next week. Other Lower Section winners were: Paul Walker, Joe Ulaky, Todd Essex (6 in a row!), Kevin Blackwell, mother Sheila Blackwell, Lee Richardson and Palmer Blackshear. All results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable." (We now begin at 7:30pm sharp! LF). Next Smokehouse this Saturday Sep 15 Be there! (Editor Needs Games; Please E-mail to lelandfue@yahoo.com)

Baxter, Tapia Share Top Honors in Smokehouse XIX
Charlotte, NC 9-15-01: Fourteen weekend warriors participated in Smokehouse XIX. In the Top Section, Kenneth "Beans" Baxter  (1922) got by Marnzell Hand (1607) and Jeff Rayfield (1840) before agreeing to a GM Draw with 15 year old phenom Daniel "Johnny Tapia (1897) to score 2.5-.5 and pocket $75. Tapia clicked off wins against Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1474) and NM Leland Fuerstman (2027) to equal the top score of 2.5-.5 and take home $75. The four man Lower Section was swept by Deneil Brazell (1300) who scored a perfect 3-0 and won $40. Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1208) was clear 2nd with 2-1 winning $20. Honorable mention goes to Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1270) who upset Marnzell Hand (1607) and Drew with NM Daniel "S" Liu (2011). (Fuerstman directed) Next Smokehouse October 20. See ya' there!
