Newton, Gatlin Maintain Perfection; Griffin vs Gordon "Adjourned?!"
Charlotte, NC  9-19-01-01: Thirty-two well mannered chessplayers participated in Rd:4 of Wendy's XXVIII. At the onset of the meeting, this director was advised, without notice, that our members must vacate the facility by 10:00? Subsequently, the game between 3-0's Griffin and Gordon was adjourned. (I will be communicating with upper management this week in an attempt to solve this, and other problems, LF). Also, as a result of Mr. McCartney's show of contrition with an open letter of apology, CCC members voted to reduce the length of the suspension allowing him to participate in Wendy's XXIX.

In the Top Section, vying for the $100 Bonus (or a portion thereof) NM Frankie "N" Newton (2195) converted an exchange up ending vs NM Garrick "Outlaw" Wells (2094) with masterly precision to lead the section with a perfect 4-0! (If someone would convince one of these guys to E-mail me the game,{lelandfue@yahoo.com} I'd be happy to include it, LF) Meanwhile, with the Black pieces, CCC Favorite Son 17 year old phenom Expert Justin "Dog" Daniel (2176) embarrassed NM Leland "El-Presidente" Fuerstman (2000) while David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1900) upset rising super-star Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1921).  In the Middle Section, the showdown between David "Bear" Griffin 3-0 (1643) and Daryl "Flash" Gordon 3-0 (1628) was adjourned. Also, in the Middle Section, Michael "Y" Shoup (1455) got by Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1359) Danesh "the Mad Iranian" Dadgar upended Brandon "EsqJr" Brown (1492), Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1655) split the point with mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1780) as did "CEO" Mike Isner (1491) vs Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1473). In the Welterweight Division, CCC Website Advisor Carl McKern (1517) defeated Jarris McGhee-Bey (806). In the Lower Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1177) handily upset "Euscreamia" Mu 1347) to lead the section with a perfect 4-0! Other Lower Section winners were: Paul Walker, Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla, "8 year old" Robert Broadbent, Louie Goodson and New Hope School Chess Coach George Cobb. All results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable." (We now begin at 7:30pm sharp! LF). Next Smokehouse Saturday Oct 20  Be there! (Editor Needs Games; Please E-mail to lelandfue@yahoo.com)
Baxter, Tapia Share Top Honors in Smokehouse XIX

Charlotte, NC 9-15-01: Fourteen weekend warriors participated in Smokehouse XIX. In the Top Section, Kenneth "Beans" Baxter  (1922) got by Marnzell Hand (1607) and Jeff Rayfield (1840) before agreeing to a GM Draw with 15 year old phenom Daniel "Johnny Tapia (1897) to score 2.5-.5 and pocket $75. Tapia clicked off wins against Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1474) and NM Leland Fuerstman (2027) to equal the top score of 2.5-.5 and take home $75. The four man Lower Section was swept by Deneil Brazell (1300) who scored a perfect 3-0 and won $40. Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1208) was clear 2nd with 2-1 winning $20. Honorable mention goes to Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1270) who upset Marnzell Hand (1607) and Drew with NM Daniel "S" Liu (2011). (Fuerstman directed) Next Smokehouse October 20. See ya' there!
