CCC Adds Another Master to the List!
Per the October 2004 USCF Rating Supplement,
listed #9 in the Nation for 18 year olds, NM
Daniel
"Johnny"
Tapia
(2218) has
officially achieved the Title of National Master.
(His FIDE rating will be 2350+!) Tapia's first rating in April of 2000
was 773! His title comes as a result of hard work and great play. The CCC
is very proud of
NM Daniel Tapia. SM

NC 10-20-04: A slightly stronger turnout
of 33 of the Metrolina area's most creative
calculators converged upon this thinktank of future chess masters more
commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:3 of Wendy's
LV.
In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, SM Karthik
"Rajah" Rangarajan (2526) quickly struck out Expert Chris "the Babe"
Mabe (2110) with 3 pitches, the CCC's #2 player, current North Carolina
Invitational Champion NM Frankie "Neutron" Newton (2266)
slammed a home run against Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (1964), Shawn
"Arlo" Pealer (2031) (See Game
0434) slid hard into home plate causing the catcher,
NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2047) to drop the ball and the good
Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1862) knocked in the winning
run in the bottom of the 9th against Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1827) each with
2-1.
In the "B" Section,
"Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1693) converted a piece down pawns up
ending versus Bobby "Duck" Waddell (1763) to share the lead at 2.5-.5
with Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan (1687) who took a half
point Bye. Meanwhile, "George C." Scott Baldwin (1760) outlasted
Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1728), Viktor "the Mad Russian"
Ozherelyev
(1659) rocked Robert C. "Roger" Moore (1700), Michael "the Savage"
Savage
(1791) savagely beat down Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1675) and
Kert "the
Oracle" Edward (1565) upset Laura Lee (1704). In the "C" Section,
Marty
"Fritz" Katz (1521)
continues to demonstrate his superiority over the field as he upstaged
"Dr." Phil Whittington (1365) to lead with 2.5-.5
whileSpencer
"Jazzman"
Singleton (1571) played some high notes on Winfred "Guns"
Gatlin (1532) and Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1437) split the
point with Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1536). In the Lower
Section,

outplayed Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin (1225) to lead with 3-0.
Other Lower Section winners were: Ervon "Wooden" Nichols,

total of 22
chess goblins from North and South Carolina travelled to the Queen City
apparently to do some early "trick or treating" at Smokehouse LVI.
In the Top Section, which boasted an average rating of over
2000!, the CCC's #1 player,
SM Karthik "Rajah" Rangarajan (2526) demonstrated his superiority
over the canaille with wins over Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1966), Expert
Keith "Chuck" Eubanks (2062) and Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2110) to
capture clear 1st Place with 3-0
and take home $100.
Equal 2nd-3rd were Eubanks (See
Game 0433) and Mabe
each with 2-1
winning $25.
In the Lower Section, one of the lowest rated players in
the field, Josh "the Law" Lawson (1303)
from parts unknown, billy-clubbed Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin (1225), Viktor
"the Mad Russian" Ozherelyev (1683) and Ken "the Terrible" Ivens (1710)
to take clear 1st Place with 3-0
and collect $100.
Clear 2nd Place with 2.5-.5
was Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1728) who pocketed
$50.
Honorable mention goes to 9 year old "Fuerstman
School of Chess"*graduate
Samuel

Xin (1225) who upset Colette "Wheels" Wheeless (1552).
