continuously updated, we will report a weekly synopsis of the previous
meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other

A rather light turnout
of 26 of the Charlotte
area's slightly frigid free thinkers congregated at this grand ballroom
where mental jousting is contested more commonly known as
Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:4
of Wendy's LXXI. In
the Top Section, CCC Favorite Son Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2109) took advantage of a bit
of ring rust as he anhiliated the CCC's #2 player, the pride of Crouse,
NC NM Frankie "Neutrino" Newton (2301) AKA the Gladiator
to lead with 3-1.
Meanwhile, Expert Patrick
"Fabio" McCartney (2000)
ditched three Pawns but somehow survived after NM Leland "El-Moron"
Fuerstman (2037) self distructed, 2005
NC Class "A" Champion Gary "Sandbagger" Branton
(1880) hung tough against Michael "Jordan" Kliber (1919) and "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1818) fought Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1800) to a Draw. In the "B" Section, Amelia "Wheels" Wheeless (1675) rolled over Ankit
"Butch" Jivan (1686) whom
dispite losing the last 2 rounds still maintains a share of the lead
with (A/B) Laura Lee and
no-show Keith "Sherlock" Holmes (1658) each with 2 points. In
the "C" Section, Colette "Wheels" Wheeless (1551) split the point with
Octavius "0-0" Obey (1550) while Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1577) outran Drexall "Frank"
Shorter (1485) each leading with 3-1. In
addition, Donald "Trump" Hofer (1559) fired Winfred "Guns"
Gatlin (1482) while Duncan
"Doughnuts" McLaughlin (1276)
upset Tony "the Tiger" Hicks (1405). In the Lower Section, Adam Jaffe (Unr) defeated Amanda "Teach"
Braband (806) to lead with 3 points.
Other Lower Section winners were: Fran Palmer, Thomas Harp and Joseph Alexander. All

Top, Lee Clear
2nd; Hudson Takes Lower Section of
Bertucci's V
Charlotte NC 11-19-05: A grand
total of 17 chessplayers from the Charlotte area and
beyond participated in Bertucci's V. In the Top Section,
Expert Patrick
"Fabio" McCartney (2000)
dispatched of Josh "Lawman" Lawson (1812) in Rd:1 and Thomas "Dolby" Paradis
(1838) in Rd:2 before
defeating upstart Tim "I just improved my" Rankin (1849) in the final
round to score 3-0
and pocket $100.
Clear 2nd Place was taken by Laura
"Karate Kid" Lee (1800)
who sent Matthew Green (1957) packing in Rd:1, Drew with Gary "Sandbagger"
Branton (1880) in Rd:2 and
defeated Paradis (1838)
in Rd:3 to score 2.5-.5 and
take home $50.
In the Lower Section, two water related
fatalities were reported as Tony "the Tiger" Hicks and Samuel
"Reshevsky" Xin drowned in the Jonathan
"Henry" Hudson (1722) river
before Kevin "Spacey" Huang (1632) swam to shore with a
Draw. Hudson took
clear 1st Place with 2.5-.5 and
pocketed $60
while Huang took clear 2nd
with 2-1
winning $30.
