Mabe, Eubanks, McCartney Share Title; Holmes "B"; C. Wheeless "C"; Braband Lower Section of Wendy's LXXI
Charlotte, NC 11-23-05:  A grand total of 48 of the southern piedmont's most ardent chess pilgrims journied to this five star dining facility more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Wendy's LXXI. In the Top Section, section leader CCC Favorite Son Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2109) ran his clock and ultimately blundered his Queen to NM Leland "Perro Grande" Fuerstman (2037) (See Game 0526) but still claimed an =1st-3rd share of the Title with SC Expert Keith "Chuckie" Eubanks (2098) who split the point with the CCC's #2 player, the pride of Crouse, NC NM Frankie "Neutrino" Newton (2301) AKA the Gladiator and Expert Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2000) who traded his Queen for a fleet of minor pieces and edged out Expert Gary "the Nuisance" Newsom (2008) (See Game 0529) each with 3-2 winning $17. Incredibly, McCartney has bounced back from a .5-4.5 result in Wendy's LXX to win 3 consecutive CCC Titles! In the "B" Section, Keith "Sherlock" Holmes (1665) finally solved the mystery of Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1800) to take clear 1st Place with 3-0. In addition, Amelia "Wheels" Wheeless (1675) handled Marnzell "I need a" Hand (1600) and John "Cereal" Grechka (1610) outplayed Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1577) (See Game 0528). In the "C" Section, Colette "Wheels" Wheeless (1551) rolled over Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1523) to take clear 1st Place with 4-1 winning Free Entry into Bertucci's VI on December 17. In addition, Kevin "Spacey" Huang (1632) handled SC player Robert "I need a" Halliday (1525), Donald "Trump" Hofer (1559) got by the "X" man Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin (1587), Tony "the Tiger" Hicks (1430) stole an OCB ending from Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1482) and Octavius "0-0" Obey (1485) manhandled Fran "Arnie" Palmer (1066). In the Lower Section, Amanda "Teach" Braband (810) outplayed Joe Shirlen (1100) to take clear 1st Place with 3.5-1.5. Other Lower Section winners were: Wei Xin. All results may be observed on the "Current Crosstable" E-mail me at lelandfue@yahoo.com to add your name to the "List of Players" who intend to participate in Bertucci's VI Saturday, December 17. Clear 2nd Place was taken by Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1800) who sent Matthew Green (1957) packing in Rd:1, Drew with Gary "Sandbagger" Branton (1880) in Rd:2 and defeated Paradis (1838) in Rd:3 to score 2.5-.5 and take home $50. In the Lower Section, two water related fatalities were reported as Tony "the Tiger" Hicks and Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin drowned in the Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1722) river before Kevin "Spacey" Huang (1632) swam to shore with a Draw.
