CCC Adds Another Master to the List! Per the October 2004 USCF Rating Supplement, listed #9 in the Nation for 18 year olds, NM Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2218)  has
officially achieved the Title of National Master.
(His FIDE rating will be 2350+!) Tapia's first rating in April of 2000
was 773! His title comes as a result of hard work and great play. The CCC
is very proud of
NM Daniel Tapia. SM

Mabe Wins Top; Eberhardinger "B"; Katz, Singleton "C"; Xin Lower Section of Wendy's LX Charlotte,
NC 11-3-04: A grand total of 59
of the Charlotte area's most talented mental jousters made the pilgrimage
to this shrine of chess champions more commonly known as Wendy's
in order to participate in Wendy's LX. In the Top
Section,
the CCC's #2 player, NM Frankie "Neutron" Newton (2266) was a no-show allowing
leader  Expert
Chris
"the Babe" Mabe (2110) to capture his 1st Wendy's Titleafter
defeating Michael "Jordan" Kliber (1900). Mabe scored
4-1
and pocketed
$100.
Meanwhile,
the CCC's #1 player, SM Karthik "Rajah" Rangarajan (2526)
captured clear 2nd Place with a win over the good Reverend Bernard
"King" Baker (1862) and a score of 3.5-1.5.
Though "Rajah" yielded Draws to Expert Todd "Chessninja" Trower and NM
Frankie "Neutron" Newton he still remains UNDEFEATED
in USCF competition!
In addition, "George C" Scott Baldwin (1760) broke out the kryptonite
against Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1836) while after being 2 pawns down, NM Leland
"Premier
Hombre" Fuerstman (2047) salvaged the Draw against
Patrick
"Fabio" McCartney (1964). In the "B" Section, taking
advantage of the "Fischer Rule," "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1693)
chose to avoid the cameras and not make a public appearance yet finished
Clear 1st Place with 3.5-.5
winning Free Entry into the
next Smokehouse. In addition, Jonathan "the Enforcer"
Munnell
(1755) manhandled Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1675), Laura "Karate Kid"
Lee
(1704) used a back fist & round kick combination to quickly K.O. Robert
C. Moore (1700), Viktor "the Mad Russian"
Ozherelyev (1659)
split the point with Jackie "Bman" Ryan (1740) and
Michael
"the Savage" Savage (1791) savagely Drew
Slobodan "the Mad
Serb" Sinanovic (1728). In the "C" Section,
Spencer
"Jazzman" Singleton (1571) blew some high notes on Kert "the Oracle"
Edward (1565) to finish =1st-2nd Place with Marty "Fritz"
Katz
(1521) who missed 2 rounds each with 2.5-2.5.
Meanwhile, "Dr." Phil Whittington (1365) unloaded on Winfred "Guns"
Gatlin (1475) while Ervon "Wooden" Nichols (1145) upset Jonathan
"the Mad Siberian" Grechka (1462).
In the Lower Section, FSC
graduate 9 year old Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin (1243) won a hard
fought contest with Hassan "HH" Hashemloo (1145) to score 4-1
and win Free Entry into the
next Smokehouse. The other Lower Section winner was:

total of 22
chess goblins from North and South Carolina travelled to the Queen City
apparently to do some early "trick or treating" at Smokehouse LVI.
In the Top Section, which boasted an average rating of over
2000!, the CCC's #1 player,
SM Karthik "Rajah" Rangarajan (2526) demonstrated his superiority
over the canaille with wins over Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1966), Expert
Keith "Chuck" Eubanks (2062) and Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2110) to
capture clear 1st Place with 3-0
and take home $100.
Equal 2nd-3rd were Eubanks (See
Game 0433) and Mabe
each with 2-1
winning $25.
In the Lower Section, one of the lowest rated players in
the field, Josh "the Law" Lawson (1303)
from parts unknown, billy-clubbed Samuel "Reshevsky" Xin (1225), Viktor
"the Mad Russian" Ozherelyev (1683) and Ken "the Terrible" Ivens (1710)
to take clear 1st Place with 3-0
and collect $100.
Clear 2nd Place with 2.5-.5
was Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1728) who pocketed
$50.
Honorable mention goes to 9 year old "Fuerstman
School of Chess"*graduate
