(Click Here) Click Below To View USCF Most Current Ratings This site is visited over 3000 times per month CCC NEWS &VIEWS 12-27-02 By NM Leland Fuerstman  Newton Takes Lead in Top; Callahan Middle; Filling Lower Section of Wendy's XLI Charlotte, NC  12-26-02:   A record low turnout (many were out of town competing in other tournaments(See Game 0281) of only 18 stuffed chessplayers donned their new Christmas sweaters and participated in Rd:3 of Wendy's XLI. In the Top Section, because leader Mouzon (2-0) was a no show, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2.5-.5) (2246) dismembered the position of Deneil "Sean" Brazell (1-2) (1807) to assume the lead with 2.5-.5. Meanwhile, Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1.5-1.5) (2033) upset NM Leland "El-Duce" Fuerstman (1-2) (2033) as Clarke "Kent" Brosi  (1-2) (1846) went Superman on  Michael Curcuru (0-1) (1811). In the Middle Section,leading with 2.5-.5, Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan(2.5-.5) (1462) could only manage a Draw versus Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1.5-1.5) (1627), the good Reverend Bernard "JoeDon" Baker (2-1) (1604) deported Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (.5-2.5) (1721) and Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (2-1) (1429) unloaded on Nathan "TechDude" Eerenberg (0-3) (1543). In the Lower Section, Travis Filling (2.5-.5) (Unr) leads with 2.5-.5 after defeating Alphonse "the Fonz" Ashamalla (2-1) (1355). Editor Needs Games; Please E-mail to: lelandfue@yahoo.com Jurjevic, Mabe Share Top Honors; Eberhardinger Perfect in Lower Section of Smokehouse XXXIV Charlotte, NC 12-21-02: A rather moderate  turnout of 18 indefatigable chessplayers participated in Smokehouse XXXIV. In the Top Section, which was noticably absent of most of Charlotte's top players, (some speculated that the fear of losing was the reason), NM Joseph Jurjevic (2154) shared the point with Kenneth J. Baxter (1900) in Rd:1 before logging in victories versus Deneil "Sean" Brazell (1746) and Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2114) while Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1886) drew Expert Tapia (2114) in Rd:1 then defeated Robert C. Moore (1700) and Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1853) to share =1st-2nd with a score of 2.5-.5 and take home $75. The Lower Section was dominated by "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1600) who reeled off wins versus James MacDougall (1696), Mark "Chessman" Johnson (1486) and the good Reverend Bernard "JoeDon" Baker (1575) to score a perfect 3-0 and take home $80. Honorable mention goes to Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1853) who upset NM Fuerstman (2064) and Expert Keith Eubanks (1997) in Rds: 1 & 2.
