Mera Perfect in Top; Johnson, Savage, Woods take Lower Section of  Smokehouse XXXV
Charlotte, NC 1-25-02: Two complete sections of a total of 20 chessplayers from 4 different continents participated in Smokehouse XXXV. In the Top Section, which was noticably absent of most of Charlotte's top players, (some speculated that the fear of losing was the reason), the pride of South America, (FM) Angel Mera (2161) posted victories against Robert C. Moore (1700), Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1909) and NM Leland "El-Duce" Fuerstman (2033) to score a perfect 3-0 and pocket $100. Clear 2nd Place with 2.5-.5 was Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1846) who took home $50. Equal 1st-3rd in the Lower Section were Mark "Chessman" Johnson (1491), Michael Savage (1360) and SSgt Russell Woods (1319) each scoring 2.5-.5 and winning $50.
