Baker Takes Middle; Savage, J. Mu Lower Section of Wendy's XLII
Charlotte,
NC 2-12-03: A
grand total of 58 of the most amicable competitorsin
the Metrolina area clocked in to this factory of creative thinkers
more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Wendy's
XLII. In
the Top Section, winning his unprecedented 25th Wendy's Title,
the CCC's #1 active player, current NC State Champion NM
Frankie
"Blitz" Newton (2246) struck out Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1909) in
the
bottom of the 9th inning, to score a perfect 5-0
and take home a $100 cash Bonus! Clear
2nd
Place with 3-2 was NM Leland
"El-Duce" Fuerstman (2033) who
bested Jackie "B" Ryan (1867) (See Game 0286).
In addition, Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (2033) split the
point with Michael Kliber (1926). In the Cruiserweight Division,
the operation was a success, but the patient expired as Dr. Gerard
"the Butcher" Sztyber (1736) pulled a sheet over the face
of Deneil "Sean" Brazell (1781). In the Middle Section, though
he lost the final round to upstart Jonathan "the Enforcer" Munnell
(1460), the
good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1588) still outdistanced
the field with 4-1. Meanwhile, Danesh
Dadgar (1587) trapped David "the Bear" Griffin (1694), Mark
"Chessman" Johnson (1491) upset David "RichMan" Richards (1628),
Frank
"Moo" Mu (1641) displaced of Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev
(1600), Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan (1462) riddled the drum
set of Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1443) and Winfred "Guns" Gatlin
(1429) unloaded on Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1619) for a 190
point upset! In the Lower Section, =1st-2nd with 4-1were
Michael
"the Savage" Savage (1360) who assassinated Daryl "Wilkes" Booth
(1147) and 7 year old phenom, Joshua "Moo"
Mu (1367) who
tracked down David "Grizzly" Adams (1128). Other Lower Section winners
were: Travis Filling, Hassan Hashemloo, Ankit "Butch"
Jivan,
Lee
"R&Bman" Richardson, Joe Shirlen and Laura Lee.

Mera Perfect in Top; Johnson,
Savage, Woods take Lower Section of Smokehouse XXXV
Charlotte,
NC 1-25-02: Two complete
sections of a total of 20
chessplayers from 4
different continents participated
in Smokehouse XXXV. In the Top Section, which
was noticably absent of most of Charlotte's top players, (some speculated
that the fear of losing was the reason), the pride of South America,
(FM) Angel Mera (2161)
posted victories against Robert C. Moore (1700), Chris "the Babe" Mabe
(1909) and NM Leland "El-Duce" Fuerstman (2033) to score a perfect 3-0
and pocket $100.
Clear 2nd Place with 2.5-.5
was
Clarke
"Kent" Brosi (1846) who took home
$50.
Equal
1st-3rd in the Lower Section were Mark
"Chessman" Johnson (1491), Michael Savage (1360) and SSgt
Russell
Woods (1319) each scoring 2.5-.5
and winning $50.
