Charlotte,
NC 1-22-03: A
large gathering of 33 chess scientists,
socialists and sciolists converged upon or holy
temple of higher thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate
in Rd:2 of Wendy's XLII. In the Top Section,
the CCC's #1 active player, current NC State Champion NM

Leland "El-Duce" Fuerstman(1-1)
(2033). Meanwhile, with the Black pieces, NM John "Night-Train"
Lane(2-1)
(2080) did
likewise to NM Daniel "Deep" Liu(.5-1.5)
(2000) to keep the pace with 2-0. In
addition, Patrick "Flanker" McCartney(1-1)
(2033) foiled mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi(0-2)
(1846) while Chris "the Babe" Mabe(1-1)
(1909) tamed Deneil "Sean" Brazell(1-1)
(1781). In the Middle Section, the good reverend Bernard
"JoeDon" Baker(2-0)
(1588) sold short against "CEO" Mike Isner (1566) while Jonathan

a hurtin' on Doug "Sky" Millsaps(1-1)
(1637) to each lead with 2-0. Also,

Mera Perfect in Top; Johnson,
Savage, Woods take Lower Section of Smokehouse XXXV
Charlotte,
NC 1-25-02: Two complete
sections of a total of 20
chessplayers from 4
different continents participated
in Smokehouse XXXV. In the Top Section, which
was noticably absent of most of Charlotte's top players, (some speculated
that the fear of losing was the reason), the pride of South America,
(IM) Angel Mera (2161)
posted victories against Robert C. Moore (1700), Chris "the Babe" Mabe
(1909) and NM Leland "El-Duce" Fuerstman (2033) to score a perfect 3-0
and pocket $100.
Clear 2nd Place with 2.5-.5
was
Clarke
"Kent" Brosi (1846) who took home
$50.
Equal
1st-3rd in the Lower Section were Mark
"Chessman" Johnson (1491), Michael Savage (1360) and SSgt
Russell
Woods (1319) each scoring 2.5-.5
and winning $50.
