    Greetings from Charlotte N.C, USA, Earth to everyone out there in cyberspace, and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. We have finally entered the ultra modern age of instant communication. In this column, which is updated every Thursday, we will strive to report a weekly synopsis of the previous meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening pleasure. Our goal is to eventually provide our members with a "realtime" site which will instantly produce current information about chess with the click of a mouse! We welcome your comments and contributions

McCartney Wins Top; D. Spencer Middle; Tapia Lower Section of Wendy's XV

A grand total of fourty-seven of the Metrolina area's most competent thinkers participated in Wendy's XV.  In the Top Section, despite a first round loss to David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1827),  Patrick McCartney (1917), held true to his prediction that he would win his first Wendy's title by reeling off three consecutive victories before drawing the final round with NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000).  One-half point behind were NM Leland Fuerstman (2058), who was upset by McCartney in Rd:4, NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000), Gary Newsom (1902) and David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1827) (See Game 0124)  each with 3-2. In the Middle Section, shuttleman Darrell "Little Kobe" Spencer (1344) took top honors with with an impressive score of 4-1. One-half point behind was Slobodan Sinanovic (1488) with 3.5-1.5. In the Lower Section, Daniel Tapia (1062) turned in four consecutive wins before earning a final round Draw versus Darrell "Little Kobe" Spencer! (1344). Other final round winners were: Gary Newsom, David Jaap, Slobodan Sinanovic, Doug "Sky" Millsaps, Anthony Smith, Jon Meyer, Daryl "Flash" Gordon, Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla and Samuel Christopher. SM Pohl, NM Liu Share Top Honors; Samuel Christopher Sweeps Lower Section in Smokehouse V

Seventeen weekend warriors participated in Smokehouse V on Saturday, 6-3-00.  In the Top Section, SM Klaus Pohl (2200) from Greenville, S.C. (captured here doing his best Doc Watson impersonation) dispatched of Gary Newsom (1902) and Patrick McCartney (1917) before agreeing to a "quick" draw with NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) who had defeated Jerome DeBell (1627) and NM Leland Fuerstman (2058) respectively.  Each took home $75. In the Lower Section,  Samuel Christopher (1052) scored a perfect 3-0 to take home the 1st Place prize of $70. Equal 2nd-4th with a score of 2-1 were Darrell Spencer (1327), Pete Danker (1310) and Daniel Tapia (990) each winning $12.
