Matriculates To Top Section! Charlotte, NC 6-18-05: As a result of her superb performance in Wendy's LXVI, 15 year old Laura "Karate Kid" Lee's rating has escaladed to 1805! NEWS & VIEWS 6-23-05"Birthday Boy" Leads Top; Hofer "B"; Obey "C"; Hashemloo Lower Section of Wendy's LXVII Charlotte, NC 6-22-05: A moderate turnout of 32 of the Charlotte area's most competent calculators converged upon this  shrine to the arcane,
more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:3 of Wendy's LXVII.
In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, SM Karthik "Rajah" Rangarajan (2468) stopped by to say
hello, play skittles and observe games. Rajah promises to return to
competition soon! Meanwhile, the  CCC's #2 player, (who just happend to
have been born on this date exactly 29 years ago), the
pride of
Crouse, NC, NM Frankie "Neutrino"
Newton (2295) AKA
"the Gladiator" waded through a maze of
complications versus Expert Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2050) but emerged
victorious to lead with 3-0. Happy
Birthday, Frankie!! In addition, Michael "Jordan" Kliber (1911) clobbered NM Leland
"El-Perro" Fuerstman (2002)
and making her debut in the Top
Section, Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1805) upset Patrick "Fabio"
McCartney (1997)! Wow!
You go, girl!! In the "B" Section,
it was reported to this Director that just
prior to the game Donald
"Trump" Hofer (1605) was
observed ingesting
some kind of secret performance enhancing supplement, possibly kryptonite but
probably Herbalife,
which may have enabled him to lock the phone booth on mild mannered
Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1794) to lead with 3-0. In
addition, "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger
(1793) successfully swam the Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1663), Ken "the Terrible" Ivens (1702) contained Dave "Ameen"
Eadie (1683) and Amelia
"Wheels" Wheeless (1672) made
peace with "Sponge" Bob Moore
(1700). In the "C" Section, Octavius "0-0" Obey (1507) hung tough and Drew
against Brian "Tiger" Woods (1682) to lead with 2.5-.5.
Meanwhile, Colette "Wheels" Wheeless (1596) expatriated Viktor
"the Mad Russian" Ozherelyev (1563), Ervon
"Wooden" Nichols (1475)
slipped by Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1463), Kevin Huang (1519) beat down Duncan
"Doughnuts" McLaughlin (1277) and Drexall
"Frank" Shorter
(1451) outran Adam "EsqJr" Clontz (1500). In the Lower Section, Hassan "HH" Hashamloo (1192) defeated Copeland
Blackwell (1145) to lead with 3-0. Other Lower Section winners were: Chris Kohlhepp, Amanda Braband and Sarah Yaghoubi. All

Lower Section of
Billy's V Charlotte NC 6-18-05: An nice even number of 20 of the Metrolina area's most active mental jousters congregated at Billy's Restaruant on Saturday to participate in Billy's V. (The silent playing room, extraordinary food and excellent service was appreciated by all!) In the Top Section,  Expert Chris
"the Babe" Mabe (2163) of
Charlotte dispatched of Dan "Ski" Andrzejewski (1758) in Rd:1, Expert Shawn "Arlo" Pealer
(2050) in Rd:2 and split the
point with Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1997) in the final round
to take clear 1st Place
with a score of 2.5-.5
and pocket $100.
Equal 2nd-5th with 2-1 were Pealer, McCartney (See Game 0487), Ken "the Terrible" Ivens (1702) and Randy "Wheels" Wheeless (1664) each winning $12.50. In
the Middle Section, Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1586) of Charlotte captured
his 3rd consecutive Billy's Middle Section Title as he
yielded a Draw to Duncan
"Doughnuts" McLaughlin (1289)
in Rd:1 and then posted back
to back victories over Donald "Trump" Hofer (1554) in Rd:2 and Jacob Parrish (1657) in Rd:3 to take clear 1st Place with 2.5-.5 and
take home $100.
Equal 2nd-5th with 2-1 were Hofer, Parrish, Viktor "the Mad Russion" Ozherelyev, and Jeff McAdams each winning $12.50. In order to observe all results see (Crosstable).
