NEWS & VIEWS 6-30-05
Mabe Leads
Top;
Hofer "B"; Nichols, Huang, Gatlin "C"; Hashemloo, Kohlhepp Lower
Section of Wendy's
LXVII
Charlotte,
NC 6-29-05:
A
moderate turnout of 32 of the Charlotte
area's most active mental jousters
abandoned their cathode tubes and converged upon this
arena where egos are impaled, more commonly known as Wendy's, in
order to participate in Rd:4
of Wendy's LXVII.
In the Top Section, CCC Favorite Son, Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2165) repeated history for the
second time in as many weeks whereby, for the first time in his chess
career, he defeated NM Frankie
"Neutrino" Newton (2399) to
lead with 3.5-.5.
Meanwhile, Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (1997) clobbered Michael
"Jordan" Kliber (1911), the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1873) apparently got away
with tugging on Superman's cape versus mild mannered Clarke "Kent"
Brosi (1794) and NM Leland "El-Perro" Fuerstman (2002) attempted to win,
but was only able to Draw a tricky endgame against Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1805) (See Game 0488).
In the "B" Section, in spite of the fact that
he drowned in the Jonathan
"Henry" Hudson (1663) river, Donald "Trump" Hofer (1605)
still leads the section by a full point with 3-1. In
addition, Marty "Fritz" Katz (1683) beat down Ankit "Butch"
Jivan (1643), Brian "Tiger" Woods (1682) teed off on David
"Haircut" Forehand (1682) and veteran "Sponge" Bob Moore (1700) needed a sponge to
clean up the remains of Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1683). In the "C" Section, Kevin "Spacey" Huang (1519) outplayed Octavius
"0-0" Obey (1507), Winfred
"Guns" Gatlin (1463) emptied
a full clip on Keith "Sherlock" Holmes (1434) and Ervon "Wooden" Nichols (1475) played taps for
Thomas "Juice" Harp (Unr) to each lead with 3-1. In
addition, Herman Drath (1512) defeated Viktor "the
Mad Russian" Ozherelyev (1563). In the Lower
Section, Chris Kohlhepp (1283) and Hassan "HH" Hashemloo (1192) share the lead with
3
points. Other Lower Section winners were: Tony "the Tiger" Craig, Corey "Joe" Frazier and Sarah Yaghoubi. All
results may be observed on the "Current
