Curcuru, Fuerstman Share
Top Honors; Abdelkefi, McAdams, Singleton, Wheeless
=1st-4th in Lower Section of Bertucci's I
Charlotte NC 7-16-05: A grand total of 23 chessplayers from hither and
yon travelled to the Queen City in order to participate in Bertucci's I. (Believe
it or not, Bertucci's Italian Restaurant
is actually better than Billy's! The simi-private
playing area was spacious and well lighted, the traditional Italian
cuisine was delicious, reasonably priced and far more than I could eat,
and the servers and management made us feel very welcome.) In the Top Section,
returning to CCC
competition, with 3 seconds left, Expert Michael "See You Are; See You Are
You" Curcuru (2114)
miraculously survived a Rd:1
debacle Drawing 10 year old phenom Joshua
"Moo" Mu
(1677) before defeating Dan "Ski" Andrzejewski (1760) in Rd:2 and Expert Chris "the Babe"
Mabe (2176) in Rd:3 to score 2.5-.5 and
share =1st-2nd Place with NM Leland "Perro-Grande" Fuerstman (2003) who dispatched of
Tom Hales (1646) in Rd:1,
yielded a Draw to Randy
"Wheels" Wheeless (1707) in Rd:2 and defeated Joshua
"Moo" Mu (1677) in Rd:3 each
winning $80. In the Lower
Section, =1st-4th were Kaled "the Alphabet" Abdelkefi (1560), Jeff "Chief" McAdams (1520), Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1477) and Colette "Wheels" Wheeless (1587) each
