"Flash" Wins the Cash; Wendy's XXII Begins Amid Record Turnout!
Charlotte, NC - 1-24-01: An outstanding group of  38 enthusiastic competitors gathered at our sacred temple of thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's on Wednesday evening in order to compete in Rd:1 of Wendy's XXII.  Curious spectators witnessed the conclusion of Daryl "Flash"Gordon's Rd:5 adjournment versus Frank Johnson. When the smoke cleared, "Flash" emerged victorious scoring a perfect 5-0 and winning $500 cash.(Tell me of one other chess club in America that does this!) In the Top Section, NM Frankie "Neutron Bomb" Newton (2216) handled returnee to competition Marqx Scott (1950) while Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1961) stumbled against NM Leland "Czar" Fuerstman (2026) as did Jon "the Merchant" Pietras versus NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000).(See Game 0163)   In addition, Gary "the Nuisance" Newsom (2020) handily Drew against returnee to competition Clark Brosi (1850). In the Middle Section, Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1497) upset Paul "Shuttleman" Calloway (1602), Jerome "Bouncer" DeBell (1549) put the skids on an impressive winning streak of Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1351), Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1611) beat down D. Paul Jenkins (1608) and "CEO" Mike Isner (1415) outlasted Frank Johnson (1350).  In the Lower Section wins were turned in by Lee"R&Bman" Richardson, newcomer Danesh Dadgar, Brandon Brown, Winfred Gatlin, Euphemia Mu, Eric Melton, Don Norwood and Joe Shirlen. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable." All welcome new members, and Jeorg Talbert, Danesh Dadgar, Marqx Scott, Kevin Wright, Brandy Chaffee and Clark Brosi. (Good Luck at LOTS next weekend! Bring back those rating points!! LF) Go Giants! and take the Ravens with you !?

In the Top Section, NM Frankie "Neutron Bomb" Newton (2202) defeated Patrick"Flanker"McCartney (1929) in Rd:1 before being slowed by the "Dutch" Defense of NM Leland "Czar" Fuerstman (2026).  A difficult Rd:3 victory over CCC Favorite Son 16 year old phenom Expert Justin Daniel (2122) allowed Newton to tie for First Place with 2.5-.5.
