CCC NEWS &VIEWS 12-28-00
By NM Leland Fuerstman

HappyNewYear!!

Who Wants To Win $500? Only 3 or 4 Left!
Charlotte, NC - 12-27-00:  Thirty of the CCC's most photogenic competitors first submitted to enterviews and images captured by representatives of the "Charlotte Observer" (article to appear Jan 14) and then submitted to the piece captures of their opponents as they participated in Rd:2 of Wendy's XXI. In the Top Section, the showdown between NM Garrick "Outlaw" Wells (2106) and NM Frankie "Neutron Bomb" Newton (2199) is still inconclusive after an even Q & minor piece ending which has been adjourned. Meanwhile, with the Black pieces, NM Leland Fuerstman (2027) out-flanked Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1911). (See Game 0157)   In the Cruiserweight Division, CCC Favorite Son Elect Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1571) logged in his third major upset in 4 tries with a superb win over David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1871) while Jon "Infinitys End & Cigars Etc" Pietras (1831) manhandled Jerome "Bouncer" DeBell (1456).  In the Middle Section, Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1644) has adjourned against Paul Lucas (1600) with the latter player having the edge while Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1489) upset D Paul Jenkins (1582).  In the Lower Section, Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla (1274) and Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1328) stayed perfect with wins over Nick "Bambam" Bambara(1212) and Copeland Blackwell (995) respectively.  Other Lower Section winners were: Jim "Sticks" Ulaky, Brandon Brown, Joe Shirlen, Marvin Williams, Alan Crombie and Lee "R&Bman" Richardson. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable."

Newton Perfect in Smokehouse X; Morse Captures Lower Section
Charlotte, NC - 12-16-00: A total of 16 weekend warriors forwent shopping for Christmas/ Chanukah/Kwanza/Ramadan gifts and instead participated in Smokehouse X.  In the Top Section, taking home $100, NM Frankie "Neutron Bomb" Newton (2199) more closly represented "Scrooge" as he spoiled the Christmas Eves of  D. Paul Jenkins (1582), "Iron" Mike" Eberhardinger (1658) and CCC Favorite Son "Elect" Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1571). Clear Second Place winning $50 was Patrick McCartney (1923) with 2.5-.5. An amazing anomaly occurred when 14 year old Daniel "Johnny" Tapia claimed his first "Master scalp" after he upset 53 year old NM Leland Fuerstman (2027) in Rd:2.!?! (See Game 0156) The Lower Section was controlled by Rob Morse (1300) with 2.5-.5 winning $60. Second Place winning $30 was Frank Mu (900) with 2-1.  Fuerstman Directed.
