Daniel, Fuerstman Lead Top; Middle Section a Toss-up; 3 Lead Lower Section of Wendy's XIX

Thirty of the greater Charlotte area's most creative thinkers converged upon our sovereign think-tank more commonly known as Wendy's on Wednesday evening in order to compete in Rd:2 of Wendy's XIX. In the Top Section each leading with 1.5-.5, NM Leland Fuerstman (2018) drew with CCC Favorite Son 16 year old phenom Expert Justin Daniel (2122) after the former player won a piece in the middle-game and summarily "pissed away" the ending!?  (See Game 0146)Meanwhile, NM "WWF" Frankie Newton II (2236) drew with NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2023).  In addition, NM Garrick "Outlaw" Wells (2151) holds an edge in his  adjourned game with Patrick McCartney (1887). In the Cruiserweight Division, Gregory "the Mad Ukrainian" Bunich (1718) submitted to Jon "Infinitys End and Cigars Etc" Pietras (1779). In the Middle Section, CCC I.O. "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1633) handled D. Paul Jenkins (1562), David Mangis (1450) whupped-up on Carl McKern (1510), David "the Bear" Griffin (1663) took care of upstart Daniel "Johnny"  Tapia (1422) and Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1400) played taps for Darrell "Kobe" Spencer (1326). In addition, a successful adjournment by either Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1641) or "CEO" Mike Isner (1400) would result in a perfect 2-0.  In the Lower Section, Brandon Brown (1304)(See Game 0145),  Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla (1278) and Derek Smith (1281) lead with perfect 2-0's. (5-0 pays $200!) Other Lower Section winners were: Nick "BamBam" Bambara, Samuel Christopher and Ankit Jivan. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable."

Pohl Perfect in Top; DeBell and Tapia Share Honors in Middle Section of Smokehouse VIII

Thirteen weekend warriors participated in Smokehouse VIII on Saturday, September 30. In the Top Section SM Klaus Pohl (2210) from Greenville, S.C. asserted his superiority by clicking off successive wins against Paul Calloway (1675), NM "WWF" Frankie Newton II (2236) and Patrick McCartney (1900) to take clear First Place and collect $80. Equal 2nd-5th were NM "WWF" Frankie Newton II, Patrick McCartney and Jon Pietras each winning $13.33.  In the Lower Section, Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1421) struck again with wins over Mike Lipkin (1540) and Sam Christopher (1050) and a Rd:2 Draw against Jerome "BigGuy" DeBell (1540).  DeBell defeated Sam Christopher (1050) and Don Norwood (800). Each took home $37.50. Fuerstman directed.
