CCC NEWS &VIEWS 11-02-00
By NM Leland Fuerstman

Newton Leads Top; Millsaps Perfect in Middle; Ashamalla and D. Smith Undecided in Lower Section of Wendy's XIX

Thirty conscientious competitors abandoned their TV's and instead chose to participate in Rd:4 of Wendy's XIX. In the Top Section, NM Frankie "Neutron Bomb" Newton (2236) exacted a certain measure of revenge against NM Garik "Outlaw" Wells (2151) by notching the point to lead the field with 2.5. Meanwhile, NM Leland Fuerstman (2027) mounted a promising middlegame counter attack versus NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2023) but faultered and was only able to Draw. In addition, David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1820) perpetrated a mild upset victory over Patrick McCartney (1900). (However, in order to view Mr. McCartney's most recent win (See Game 0147) . In the Middle Section, Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1641) remains perfect after an impressive upset crush over Jon "Infinity's End and Cigars Etc" Pietras (1824).  (See Game 0148)Also, in the Middle Section, CCC I.O. "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1645) tripped up Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1410), David Mangis (1496) handled Jerome "BigGuy" DeBell (1490), Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1444) took care of Donald "Sky" Hofer (1500), D. Paul Jenkins (1562) defeated Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1300) and "CEO "Iron" Mike Isner (1400) has adjourned with Robert Eaman (1460). In the Lower Section, leaders with three points, Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla (1278) and Derek Smith (1281)  each vying for a perfect score, have adjourned. Other Lower Section winners were: Brandon Brown, Frank Mu, Jim Ulaky, Michael "You Know You Make Me Wanna" Shoup and Samuel Christopher.
All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable."

Pohl Perfect in Top; DeBell and Tapia Share Honors in Middle Section of Smokehouse VIII

Thirteen weekend warriors participated in Smokehouse VIII on Saturday, September 30. In the Top Section SM Klaus Pohl (2210) from Greenville, S.C. asserted his superiority by clicking off successive wins against Paul Calloway (1675), NM "WWF" Frankie Newton II (2236) and Patrick McCartney (1900) to take clear First Place and collect $80. Equal 2nd-5th were NM "WWF" Frankie Newton II, Patrick McCartney and Jon Pietras each winning $13.33.  In the Lower Section, Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1421) struck again with wins over Mike Lipkin (1540) and Sam Christopher (1050) and a Rd:2 Draw against Jerome "BigGuy" DeBell (1540).  DeBell defeated Sam Christopher (1050) and Don Norwood (800). Each took home $37.50. Fuerstman directed.
