NEWS & VIEWS 11-11-04
Wendy's LXI Begins; New Starting Time 7:30pm Sharp!
(Players who arrive late, or don't call, will be paired with other late
entrants, if possible)
Charlotte,
NC 11-10-04: A particularly light
turnout of only 22 of the greater Charlotte
area's most creative competitors congregated at this factory of chess champions
more
commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:1 of Wendy's
LXI.
In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, 2004 NC co-State
Champion SM Karthik "Rajah" Rangarajan (2520), who has yet
to lose a single game in USCF competition, demonstrated his superiority
over Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2033), the CCC's #2 player,
2004 NC Invitational Champion NM Frankie "Neutron" Newton
(2282) upstaged Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (1961), defending Wendy's Champion
Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2110) manhandled the good Reverend
Bernard "King" Baker (1843)
and NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2035) broke out
the kryptonite against Clarke "Kent' Brosi (1803) to each lead with 1-0. In
addition, Mark Sturman (1820) savagely beat Michael "the Savage"
Savage (1762). In the "B" Section, Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan
(1701) made his day against Marty "Fritz" Katz (1615) while Laura
"Karate Kid" Lee (1698) KO'ed Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1617). In the
"C"
Section, Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1532) conducted a precision
N&P's ending versus Don "Juan" Hofer (1485) to lead with

think maybe, "Guns" has scared all the "C" players away!) In the Lower
Section,
Duncan
"DoughNuts" McLaughlin,
Samuel "Reshevsky"
Xin
and Justin "Daniel" Robason lead with
1-0.
