Flash:  Mad Cow Disease Ruled Out; Mysterious Chess Virus Likely Culprit of Mutations
Charlotte, NC - 12-9-00:After a thorough investigation by the Atlanta Center for Disease Control, it can safely be stated that there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that food served at Wendy's was contaminated with the "Mad Cow Disease" virus. However, some members of the CCC have exhibited symptoms of a curious yet undetected malady which causes certain facial changes. Scientists speculate that this could be due to a rare condition referred to as "CFS" or "Chess Fatigue Syndrome." In order to observe these startling images Click Here.

Newton Takes Control of Top; DeBell Middle; Clontz Lower Section of Wendy's XX.  Perfect Score Still Possible for DeBell!
Charlotte, NC - 12-6-00: Thirty-one of the Metrolina area's most ambitious competitors dugthemselves out of the "heavy snow" and participated in Rd:4 of Wendy's XX. In the Top Section, NM Frankie "Neutron Bomb" Newton (2199) figuratively detonated his ordnance upon NM Leland Fuerstman (2027) to lead with 3-0.  Close behind is Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1911) and probably (because of an unfinished adjournment) CCC Favorite Son 16 year old phenom Expert Justin Daniel (2106)  after wins over Gary Newsom (2016) and NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) respectively. Also, in the Top Section, Honorable Mention goes to Jon Infinitys End & Cigars Etc" Pietras (1824) who Drew with NM Garik "Outlaw" Wells (2106).  In the Cruiserweight Division, David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1871) TKOed Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1644) while "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1658) took out Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1489). In the Middle Section, leader Jerome "Bouncer" DeBell (1456) who appears to have "bounced back" after winning his Rd:3 adjournment vs upstart Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1501), has adjourned again, this time against D. Paul Jenkins (1585). DeBell remains the only player left who could end with a perfect score! Also, in the Middle Section, Paul "Shuttleman" Calloway (1611) drew with Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1501). In the Lower Section, Adam "Esq. Jr" Clontz (1177) upended Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla (1274) to lead with 3.5-.5.  Other Lower Section winners were:  Michael "You Know You Make Me Wanna" Shoup, Daryl "Flash" Gordon, Timothy Ruffin, Joe Shirlen, Lee "R&Bman" Richardson and Winfred "Windy" Gatlin. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable." All welcome new CCC members David Carol and Alan Crombie. See ya' at Smokehouse X on December 16. LF
