Leads Top; A. Wheeless, S. Xin "B"; Shorter, Gatlin "C"; McLaughlin,

Charlotte, NC 12-7-05:
A rather light turnout
of only 27 of the Metrolina
area's most versatile competitors congregated at this laboratory where
mysterious problems are solved more commonly known as
Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:2
of Wendy's LXXII. In
the Top Section, the
CCC's #2 player, the pride of Crouse, NC NM Frankie "Neutrino" Newton (2294) AKA the Gladiator
employing the London System, conducted
a precise attack against NM Leland "Perro Grande" Fuerstman (2037) to lead with 2-0.
Meanwhile, Davidson College scholar Tim
"I just increased my" Rankin
(1896) upset Expert Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (2018), Gary "Sandbagger" Branton (1880) outlasted Laura
"Karate Kid" Lee (1820) and with seconds left on both clocks, Michael "Jordan" Kliber (1919) split the point with
Expert Gary "the Nuisance" Newsom (2009).
In the "B" Section, Amelia "Wheels" Wheeless (1675) made peace with 10
year old phenom, graduate of the Fuerstman
School of Chess, Samuel
"Reshevsky" Xin (1619) to each
lead with 1.5-.5.
Xin, who gained 379 rating
points since 12-04 has been declared the 2005
CCC Most Improved Player of the Year.
In addition, Keith
"Sherlock" Holmes (1745)
arrested Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1686). In the "C" Section, Drexall "Frank" Shorter (1518) outran Colette
"Wheels" Wheeless (1553) while Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1451) blew away Spencer
"Jazzman" Singleton (1515) (See Game
0531) to each lead with 2-0. In
addition, Donald "Trump" Hofer (1560) fired Viktor "the Mad
Russian" Ozherelyev (1562) and Dave
"Ameen" Eadie (1575) drew with
Adam Jaffe (1254).
In the Lower Section, Duncan "Doughnuts" McLaughlin (1277) and Dave Peter (p429) lead with 2-0. Other Lower Section winners were: Wei Xin. All

Charlotte NC 11-19-05: A grand
total of 17 chessplayers from the Charlotte area and
beyond participated in Bertucci's V. In the Top Section,
Expert Patrick
"Fabio" McCartney (2000)
dispatched of Josh "Lawman" Lawson (1812) in Rd:1 and Thomas "Dolby" Paradis
(1838) in Rd:2 before
defeating upstart Tim "I just improved my" Rankin (1849) in the final
round to score 3-0
and pocket $100.
Clear 2nd Place was taken by Laura
"Karate Kid" Lee (1800)
who sent Matthew Green (1957) packing in Rd:1, Drew with Gary "Sandbagger"
Branton (1880) in Rd:2 and
defeated Paradis (1838)
in Rd:3 to score 2.5-.5 and
take home $50.
In the Lower Section, two water related
fatalities were reported as Tony "the Tiger" Hicks and Samuel
"Reshevsky" Xin drowned in the Jonathan
"Henry" Hudson (1722) river
before Kevin "Spacey" Huang (1632) swam to shore with a
Draw. Hudson took
clear 1st Place with 2.5-.5 and
pocketed $60
while Huang took clear 2nd
with 2-1
winning $30.
