Newton Claims 26th
Wendy's Title; Baker Wins Middle Again; J. Mu 5-0,
Wins $100 Bonus!
in Lower Section of Wendy's XLIII...4 Records Broken!!
Charlotte,
NC 3-19-03: A
new total players record of 65 aquatic travellers
and revellers converged upon this sacred temple of higher thinkers
more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Wendy's
XLIII.
In the Top Section, showing no signs of triskaidekaphobia,
the CCC's #1 rated active player, current NC State Champion, NM Frankie
"Blitz" Newton (2268) with
35 seconds left on his clock, squeezed a win out of what appeared to be
an OCB draw versus Deneil "Sean" Brazell (1821) to capture his record
26th Wendy's Title with 4.5-.5 and
register a record 13th
consecutive wins in CCC competition! Wow! Clear 2nd Place
with
3.5-1.5
was NM John "NightTrain" Lane (2080) who
split the final round point with Patrick "Flanker" McCartney
(2033). In addition, NM Leland "El-Duce" Fuerstman (2033)
did likewise with NM Daniel "Schlecter" Liu (2000). In the
Cruiserweight
Division,Jackie
"Bman" Ryan (1862) could only manage a Draw against
Doug
"Sky" Millsaps (1637). In the Middle
Section, the
Good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1600) sold
short against "CEO" Mike Isner (1566) to take clear 1st Place with
4.5-.5,
his 2nd Middle Section victory in succession. Meanwhile,
Viktor
"the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1600) turned the tables on Jim"
Sticks" Ulaky (1442), Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1619) bested
Robert C. Moore (1700), and Debell-Johnson, Richards-Dadgar
and Gatlin-Callahan each ended peacefully. Taking 1st Place
in the Lower Section, #3 in the country in his age group,
7 year old phenom Joshua
"Moo" Mu (1424) quickly dispatched of Michael "the Savage" Savage
(1360) to score 5-0
and take home a Bonus of $100.(See
Game 0293) (According to the "Rating Calculator" Joshua Mu's
new rating after this event is 1546!) Equal

with 3.5-1.5

(1355) and Clyde "the Glyde" Plyler (1396) who defeated Laura
Lee and Kevin Blackwell respectively. Other Lower Section
winners were: Tony Hicks, Ankit "Butch" Jivan,

Essex, Mike Richards and Brandy Johnson (748) who scored

Moreira, McGavran 3-0
in Top; MacDougall 3-0
in Middle Section of Smokehouse XXXVII
Charlotte,
NC 3-22-02: Two complete
sections of a total of 21
chessplayers from hither and yon participated
in Smokehouse XXXVII. In the Top Section,
which was noticably absent of many of Charlotte's top players, (some
speculated that the fear of losing was the reason), NM
Jairo Moreira
(2339)
ran off consecutive wins against Todd "Flowers" Trower (2021), NM Leland
"El-Duce" Fuerstman (2033) and Keith "Chuck" Eubanks (2048) to score his
second perfect
3-0
in as many attempts and pocket $75.
Also finishing with 3-0
and winning $75
was darkhorse Jamie McGavran (1860) who
registered wins against Patrick "Goose Egg" McCartney (2033), NM Daniel
"Deep" Liu (2000) and Todd "Flowers" Trower (2021). In the Middle
Section, James
"Frugal"
MacDougall (1728) notched wins against Michael "the Savage" Savage
(1421), Robert C. Moore (1700) and Dr. Gerard "the Butcher" Sztyber (1764)
to file back-to-back 3-0's
in Smokehouse competition and win $100.
Clear 2nd Place with 2.5-.5
was Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1570) who
took home $50.
