Charlotte, NC  4-23-03:  A grand total of 57 of the Metrolina area's most creative calculators converged upon our sacred temple of higher thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's in order to compete in Wendy's XLIV. In the Top Section, invoking the "Fischer Rule," (more than one point ahead of the field so no need to play the last round), the CCC's #1 player, current NC State Champion, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2290) scored 3.5-.5 to capture his unprecedented 27th Wendy's Title without moving a piece! Flash!! Flash!! Flash!! According to the USCF Rating Update of 4-22, NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton's new rating is 2300!! (Mad props to Frankie!!) Second Place with 2.5-.5 was Chris "the Babe" Mabe (1993) who upset NM Leland "El-Duce" Fuerstman (2015) in the final round. Meanwhile, CCC Favorite Son, current NC Scholastic Champion, 16 year old phenom, Expert Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2124) bested Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1933) while Jackie "Bman" Ryan (1849) drew with NM Daniel "Schlecter" Liu (2000). Sharing Top Honors in the newly formed "B" Section, the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1679) was held to a Draw by Jonathan "The Enforcer" Munnell (1697) allowing Bobby Waddell (1740) who defeated Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1675) in the final round to equal Baker's score of 3.5-1.5. Each player won a $10 Gift Certificate from Cigars Etc. 3712 E. Ind. Blvd. In addition, Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1668) welcomed back to tournament competition Tarokh Taefi (1724) (whom, you may notice, has won the Top Section of this event in the past!), Frank "Moo" Mu (1715) riddled Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan (1552) and "George C" Scott Baldwin (1775) manhandled Jerome "Cookie Monster" DeBell (1680). In the "C" Section, Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1538) split the point with Danesh "DD" Dadgar (1614) to capature clear 1st Place with 3.5-1.5. Second Place with 3-2 was Michael "the Savage" Savage (1421) who handled CCC Player Representative Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla (1355) and Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1417) played taps for Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1423).
