    Greetings from Charlotte N.C, USA, Earth to everyone out there in cyberia, and welcome to the Charlotte Chess Club website. We have finally entered the ultra modern age of instant communication. In this column, which is updated every Thursday, we will strive to report a weekly synopsis of the previous meeting to include current standings, annotated games, and other interesting anecdotes for your reading, viewing, and listening pleasure. Our goal is to eventually provide our members with a "realtime" site which will instantly produce current information about chess with the click of a mouse! We welcome your comments and contributions

Wendy's XXV Begins
Charlotte, NC 5-9-01: Thirty-four of the Charlotte area's most cunning calculators descended upon our sacred temple of thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's on Wednesday evening in order to participate in Rd:1 of  Wendy's XXV. In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, NM F.WilliamNewton II (2215) dispatched of NM Daniel "Skip-to-my" Liu (2022) while on Bd:2, with the Black pieces, CCC Favorite Son 17 year old Expert Justin Daniel (2145) was only able to Draw with Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1895). The results of the next 3 boards ended as expected as NM Garrick "Outlaw" Wells (2079) repulsed David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1887), NM Leland "Czar" Fuerstman (2018) contained mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1847) and Dr. Armin "Hammer" Burghart (2018) performed surgery on "shooting star" Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1748). In the Middle Section, Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1524) played "Taps" for Wendy's XXIV Middle Section winner Brandon "Esq.Jr" Brown (1343) while Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1592) and Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1418) defeated Jerome "Bouncer" DeBell (1634) and D. Paul Jenkins (1591) respectively. In addition, Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1290) Drew! with "CEO Mike Isner (1514). In the Lower Section, wins were turned in by: Jered Williams, Randy "King" Hunter, Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla, Danesh Dadgar, Kevin Chu, Michael Ballenger, Michael "You Know You Make Me Wanna" Shoup and Robert Caldwell. All results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable." All welcome new members Robert Caldwell, Kevin Chu, Richard Wesson and the "CCC's youngest  member ever" 6 year old Joshua Mu (744). Daniel, Burghart Share Top Honors; Lipkin Perfect in Lower Section of Smokehouse XV
Charlotte, NC 5-12-01: Twenty-four week-end warriors from 3 states participated in Smokehouse XV. In the Top Section, CCC Favorite Son, NC High School Champion, 17 year old Expert Justin Daniel (2145) outplayed rising star 15 year old Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1748) in Rd:1 before being slowed by CCC's #1 player NM W.F. "Frankie" Newton II (2215) who split the point. The final round saw Daniel upset chess legend SM Klaus Pohl (2252) from Greenville, S.C. Meanwhile, Dr. Armin Burghart (2018) got past Robert C. Moore (1728), Drew with SM Klaus Pohl (2252) in Rd:2! and defeated Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1895) in the final round to finish =1st Place with 2.5-.5 each winning $75. The Lower Section 1st Prize of $100 cash was taken home by Michael Lipkin (1500) who scored a perfect 3-0.  Equal 2nd-3rd were D. Paul Jenkins (1591) and Gil Holmes (1600) each with 2.5-.5 winning $25. Below 1200 Prize was shared by Samuel Christopher (1005) and Frank Mu (1045) each with 2-1 winning $15.
