Draws Clog Top Section, Clavijo Perfect in Lower Section of Frigid Wendy's XIV

A record low turnout of only two dozen semi-frozen cadavers, because of the record low temperatures, retreated to their cars for a jacket or heavy coat (it sort of seems like they're trying to freeze us out of there, I've already put in a call to upper management. LF) and then disguised themselves as mortal chessplayers in order to compete in Rd:3 of Wendy's XIV.  In the Top Section, sans NM "WWF" Frankie Newton II (2193) who was absent due to a serious golfing accident, and NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) who is currently wreaking havoc on LA, co-leader CCC Favorite Son 16 year old phenom Expert Justin Daniel (2006), with his patented KI Sicilian Attack, could only manage a Draw against NM Leland Fuerstman (2048) while Jon "Infinity's End and & Cigar Etc" Pietras (1745) kept pace with a convincing Draw versus Patrick "The Drawing Amateur"  McCartney (1896).  In addition, after an extraordinary tactical battle with the Black pieces Gary Newsom (1902) survived against David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1809).(See Game 0112)  In the Middle Section,  Thomas "Turnaround" Hayes (1491) took it on the chin from Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1576) while CCC Website Advisor Carl McKern (1522) was upset by Slobodan Sinanovic (1415). In the Lower Section, Helton Clavijo (1289) maintains the only perfect score of the tournament after a convincing win with the Black pieces over Timothy Ruffin (1261).  Other Lower Section winners were: Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla, Samuel Christopher, Henry Martinat, Darrell Spencer, David Roman and Daryl "Flash" Gordon. All results may be viewed in "Current Crosstable."

Newton Acts Like IRS -  Seizes Cash; Brandon Brown Perfect in Lower Section of Smokehouse III
Twenty chess energumens (including 4 chessmasters) disguised as normal taxpayers forwent filing their income tax forms on Saturday, April 15 and instead participated in Smokehouse III.  In the Top Section, recently crowned National Master "WWF" Frankie Newton (2202) refused to issue a deferment avoiding a final round draw versus frontrunner NM Leland Fuerstman (2084) to score 2.5-.5 and take home $100 cash. Equal 2nd-5th were NM Klaus Pohl (2222) (from Greenville, S.C.), NM Leland Fuerstman (2084), NM Daniel Liu (2000) and Patrick McCartney (1853) each with 2-1 winning $12.50. In the Lower Section, Brandon Brown (1255) posting the only perfect 3-0 of the tournament also collected $100. Laurin Keller (1369), Joe Feiler (1079), Darrell Spencer (1364) and "Iron" Mike Isner (1435) each scored 2-1 and pocketed $12.50. Fuerstman directed.
