The
CCC's #1 player, and the pride of Crouse,
NC, NM Frankie "Neutron" Newton
(2246) scored 3.5-1.5 against a strong
field of Masters including NM John Bidwell, NM Greg Samsa, NM Vann Alan
Patrick (See Game 0398) NM Craig Jones and
NM Neal Harris to take clear 1st Place and the Title
of 2004 North Carolina Invitational Champion!
"You da' man, Frankie...just win baby!!" (Now the CCC is 5
for 5!; the 6th Title, the 2004 NC Championship is still up for
grabs!) Oh, by the way, CCC Expert Michael Curcuru is the 2004
South Carolina State Champion! |

Charlotte,
NC 6-16-04: A grand total of 48
loyal members of the President's Guard all stood at attention and saluted
as our hero, the CCC's #1 player, the pride
of Crouse, NC, 2004 NC Invitational
Champion NM Frankie "Neutron" Newton (2243) entered the main
gate of this shrine of great southern chessplayers more commonly known
as Wendy's. Each ambitious competitor was present to both participate in
Wendy's
LVI
and to witness NM Newton win his unprecedented
37th Wendy's
Title
with a decisive final round victory over the good Reverned Bernard "King"
Baker (1807). Newton took clear 1st Place with 5-0
and
won
$50.
(Half
of the $100 Bonus) Meanwhile, NM Leland "Premier Hombre"
Fuerstman
(2026) went under the knife versus Dr. Gerard "the Butcher" Sztyber
(1753) but escaped with a Draw. In
the "B" Section, David "the Bear" Griffin (1620) dethroned
Ken "the Terrible" Ivens (1693) to take clear 1st Place with 2.5-.5.
In addition, Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1664) bested Marnzell
"Pat Hand" (1600) and Paul "Survivor" Lucas (1600) squeeked by Samuel
"Reshevsky" Xin (1143).
In the "C" Section, tying for =1st-2nd with 3
points, the situation was was similar with Kevin "Spacey" Huang
(1592) (who just returned from the Emery Castel Grand Prix where
he took 1st place Class "C" with 4.5-.5!)
defeating
Kert "Oracle" Edward (1540) and Winfred
"Guns" Gatlin (1451) losing to Dave "Ameen" Eadie
(1554). In addition, John "the Mad Siberian" Grechka (1377)
diverted Jonathan "River" Hudson (1408). In the Lower Section,
Marty
"Fritz" Katz (1280) dogged Todd "E-sex" Essex (1220) to score 5-0
and win $50.(Half of the $100 Bonus). Other
Lower
Section
winners were: F Dean "Place your" Betts,
Chang Sun,
Stephen
Wang and Herbert Song. All results may be observed on the "Current
Crosstable." All welcome new members Stephen
Wang, Greg Song, Herbert Song and Daryl

Kevin Huang; Moving Up
Rapidly!
According to his most current rating, added to his 5-0
in Wendy's LV (where
his performance rating was 2030),
the USCF rating calculator indicates Kevin Huang's
new rating to be 1691! moving him up 42 places
on the list of 11 year olds in the nation to #17!
Kevin is currently the 2004 K-5 NC State Champion. The CCC shines again! |

and yon made the pilgrimage to the Queen City in order to participate in
Smokehouse
LII. Equal

Place in the Top Section, CCC Favorite Son, 3 time NC
Scholastic Champion, Expert Daniel "Johnny"
Tapia (2157)
of Charlotte registered victories over Kenneth J. "Beans" Baxter (1900)
and Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (1997) before agreeing to a GM Draw with Expert
Keith
"Chuck" Eubanks (2079) of Columbia, SC who dispatched of Brian "Tiger"
Woods (1643) and NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2026). Each scored
2.5-.5
and pocketed $75.
In the Lower Section,Josh
"the Law" Lawson (1310) of Greensboro took clear 1st Place
with 2.5-.5
winning $60.
Equal 2nd-3rd were Matthew Greene (Unr) and Jacob
Parrish (1230) each with 2-1
