"Night-Train" Takes "Czar" For a Ride! Johnson Still Perfect in Lower Section of Wendy's XXVI
Charlotte, NC 6-27-01:Thirty-two of the Metrolina area's most creative thinkers forwent watching the NBA draft and instead participated in Rd:3 of Wendy's XXVI. In the Top Section, chess mercenary NM J. Edgar "Night-Train" Lane (2095) hauled NM Leland "Czar" Fuerstman (2017) to the end of the line "and his clock" winning from what was subsequently determined to be a drawn position, to lead with 2.5-.5. Meanwhile, the CCC's #1 Player NM William F. "Frankie" Newton (2215) eaked out a draw versus aspiring Expert Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1992). Also, in the Top Section,Dr. Armin "Hammer" Burghart (2000) bested "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1690). In the Middle Section, Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1418) upset leader Dr. Paul Jenkins (1605) to lead with 2.5-.5 while Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1524) turned the tables on Marnzell Hand (1600) and Danesh "the Mad Iranian" Dadgar (1458) outlasted Brandon Brown (1343). In the Lower Section, Frank "Chessman" Johnson's (1281) persistence in a K&P ending versus Jim "Sticks" Ulaky (1245) paid off leaving him the lone 3-0 in the tournament! (CCC pays a $100 Bonus for 5-0!) Other Lower Section winners were: Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla, Nick "BamBam" Bambara, Cody Oyama, Jarris McGhee-Bey, Michael Peters, Palmer Blackshear, Copeland Blackwell and Jared Morse.
