Top; Millsaps Takes Middle; Ashamalla, Gatlin, M. Richards Lower Section
of Wendy's XXXVI Charlotte,
NC 7-10-02:
A grand total of 65
of the Metrolina area's most celebrated chess players participated in Wendy's
XXXVI.
In the Top Section, NM
Frankie
"Blitz" Newton (2214), (who just returned from the
World Open
where he scored 4.5-4.5
in the "Open Section" versus IM's and Masters!) cashed in on his Rd:4 half
point Bye as he defeated science fiction buff and advanced thinker NM Garrick
"H.G" "Outlaw" Wells (2085) winning his unprecedented 20th
Wendy's Title for 1st Place with 4.5-.5.
Clear 2nd Place with 4-1
was NM Leland "Renaldo" Fuerstman (2009) who
scored a goal against NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2000) (See
game 0237) . Meanwhile, NC High
School Champion, 17 year old phenom, Expert (and soon to be Master after
his superb
4.5-4.5
showing in the "Open Section" of the World Open versus IM's
and Masters!) Justin "Dog" Daniel (2177) with
one lethal bite emasculated Slobodan "the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1723) while
mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1809) shared the point
with Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1910)
(who also just returned from the World Open where he scored
7-2
in the "Under 2000" Section winning $575!)
"Congratulations
gentlemen; you have done the CCC proud" LF In the Middle

"Sky" Millsaps(1644)handed
Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1404) his head taking clear 1st
Place with 4-1.
Meanwhile, Jerome "Cookie Monster" DeBell (1641) deported
Danesh "Ayatollah" Dadgar (1623), Nathan "TechDude" Eerenberg
(1498) headbanged Michael "Y" Shoup (1550), Reverend Bernard "Jim"
Baker
(1521) beat down Algie "Van" Clyburn (1585), "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger
(1600) split the point with Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1597) and
Brandon
"Starr" Brown (1500) did likewise with "CEO" Mike Isner (1634).
In the Lower Section, Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla,
Winfred
"Guns" Gatlin and
Mike Richards were =1st-3rd
with
3-2. Other
Lower Section winners were: Scott Duncan, Richard
Tomlin, SheilaBlackwell and Eric Rust. All

of the most active week-end warriors, including

in Smokehouse XXIX. In the Top Section, Expert
and soon to be Master Harold "Wyn" Mouzon (2195)
of Charlotte dispatched of Keith Eubanks (2036) of Columbia, SC, NM Leland
Fuerstman (2009) and Daniel Tapia (2036) to score a perfect 3-0
and pocket $100.
Equal 2nd-4th with 2-1
were NM Joseph Jurjevich (2145), Daniel Tapia (2036) and
Chris
Mabe (1889) each taking home $17.
The Middle Section was controlled by Paul Calloway
(1645) of Horse Shoe, NC and "Team Columbia" stars James MacDougall
(1560) and Kermon
Lane (1458) each scoring 2.5-.5
and winning $50.
In the Lower Section, Lee Nevitt (947) and Jonathan
Munnell (Unr) each scored 2.5-.5
and pocketed $60.
