"Night Train"Derailed by "Neutron Bomb;" Shoup Vies for $100 Bonus in Wendy's XXVII
Charlotte, NC 8-15-01: Fourty-two of the southern piedmont's most capable calculators converged upon our sacred temple of thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's on Wednesday evening in order to participate in Rd:4 of Wendy's XXVII.In the Top Section, now co-leader with 3-1, NM Frankie "Neutron Bomb" Newton (2190) triggered an explosion in a "R & P" ending that caused the derailment of NM John "Night-Train" Lane (2094). Meanwhile, NM Garrick "Outlaw" Wells (2097) was surprisingly routed by David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1867) who has matched the leader's score with 3-1.(See Game 0194)(Posistion after ...22 Rc3) Also, in the Top Section, CCC's Favorite Son and soon to be Master, 17 year old phenom Justin "Dog" Daniel (2150) defeated soon to be CCC's favorite son 15 year old phenom Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1956) while NM Daniel "Revenge" Liu (2011) capitalized on a tactical error by NM Leland "Grand Potentate" Fuerstman (2035). In addition, Jamie "Night Stalker" McGavran (1863) handled mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1808) while Dr. Armin Burghart (1987) performed surgery on Patrick "Piece thrower" McCartney (2001).    {New CCC Rule: CCC players must refrain from uttering the "A" word out loud in the restaurant}. In the Middle Section, the winning streak of Dr. Paul Jenkins (1587) was halted by spoiler "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger (1690). Also, in the Middle Section, Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1562) handled Marnzell Hand (1600) while "CEO" Mike Isner (1455) negotiated a hostile takeover of  Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton.  In the Lower Section, Michael "Y" Shoup (1223) remains the lone player in the tournament with a perfect 4-0 score after a decisive win over Frank "Chessman" Johnson (1250). Other Lower Section winners were: Euphemia Mu, Marvin Williams, Alphonse "Amazing Al" Ashamalla, James "Bobby" Fisher, Sid Thomasson, Palmer Blackshear, Brandon "EsqJr" Brown, Andrew Langerman, Jim Ulaky and Todd Essex (568)!who engineered the greatest upset in CCC history over Lee "R&Bman" Richardson (1212).
All results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable."    (We now begin at 7:30pm sharp! LF).  Next Smokehouse this Saturday Aug 18. Be there! (Editor Needs Games; Please E-mail to lelandf@juno.com)

Charlotte, NC 7-21-01: Nineteen weekend warriors participated in Smokehouse XVII. In the Top Section, new CCC addition (and soon to be Master) Harold "Wyn" Mouzon III (2190) outflanked Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (2001) in Rd:1 before being slowed by NM Leland "Czar" Fuerstman (2027) who split the point.  In the final round, Mouzon upset leader SM Klaus Pohl (2208) to take clear 1st Place and pocket $100. Equal 2nd-5th with 2-1 were SM Klaus Pohl, NM Leland Fuerstman, Justin Daniel and Jeff Rayfield each winning $12.50.
