"Night-train" Chugs Toward Destination; Jenkins Perfect in Middle, Shoup Lower Section of Wendy's XXVII
Charlotte, NC 8-8-01: "You have completely taken this place over" was tersely lamented by an employee as 43 of the hungriest tournament chess players in the Metrolina area congregated at our temple of thinkers more commonly known as Wendy's on Wednesday evening in order to compete in Rd:3 of Wendy's XXVII. In the Top Section, NM John "Night-train" Lane (2094) would not be deterred as he first won a pawn, and then a piece from "Alzheimer's candidate" NM Leland "Czar" Fuerstman (2035) to lead the section with 2.5-.5. Noticably absent were the CCC's co-#1 player NM Frankie "Neutron Bomb" Newton (2190) who suffered a minor "weight lifting" accident (Dude, Frankie's buffing up!) and CCC Favorite Son 17 year old phenom and soon to be Master Justin Daniel (2151) who is currently competing in the Arnold Denker National Tournament of High School Champions in Framingham, Mass. Other Top Section results saw NM Garrick "Outlaw" Wells (2097) defeat Jamie McGavran (1863) while David "Kamikaze" Jaap (1864) was somewhat embarrassed by the "temper tantrum" displayed by his opponent, Patrick "piece thrower" McCartney (2001). (New CCC Rule: Please refrain from uttering the "F word" out loud while inside the restaurant!?) Also, in the Top Section, possibly the fastest rising player in the nation, Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (1956) split the point with NM Daniel "Schlecter the Drawing Master" Liu (2011). In the Cruiserweight Division, mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1808) dispatched of Doug "Sky" Millsaps (1668). In the Middle Section, "Dr." Paul Jenkins (1591) remains perfect after a convincing win over Danesh "the Mad Iranian" Dadgar (1453) while Slobodan "the Lucky Serb" Sinanovic (1620) displaced Marnzell Hand (1609) and Daryl " Flash" Gordon (1562) bested Brandon "Esq.Jr" Brown (1458). In the Lower Section, Michael "Y" Shoup (1223) upstaged Randy "King" Hunter (1131) to lead with 3-0. Other Lower Section winners were: Paul Walker, Euphemia Mu, Winfred "Windy" Gatlin, Scott Grimes, Sid Thomasson, Andrew Langerman, Lee "R&Bman" Richardson, Rob Morse, Jared Morse and 6 year old "phenom" Joshua Mu! All results may be viewed in the "Current Crosstable."  All welcome new CCC members Amitoj Trehan, Cody Holden and Andrew Langerman. (We now begin at 7:30pm sharp! In the Top Section, new CCC addition (and soon to be Master) Harold "Wyn" Mouzon III (2190) outflanked Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (2001) in Rd:1 before being slowed by NM Leland "Czar" Fuerstman (2027) who split the point.  In the final round, Mouzon upset leader SM Klaus Pohl (2208) to take clear 1st Place and pocket $100. Equal 2nd-5th with 2-1 were SM Klaus Pohl, NM Leland Fuerstman, Justin Daniel and Jeff Rayfield each winning $12.50. In the Lower Section, Frank Mu (1134) defeated Don Norwood (807), Coy Johnson (950) and Bhaskar Mookherji (925) scoring a perfect 3-0 and taking home $90. Equal 2nd-3rd were Michael Curcuru and Jerome DeBell each pocketing $15. (Fuerstman directed) Next Smokehouse August 18.  See ya' there!
