healthy turnout of 46
of the Metrolina area's most competitive calculators
converged upon this refrigerated think-tank more commonly known as Wendy's
in order to participate in Rd:3 of Wendy's XLVIII.
In the Top Section,
2003 N.C. Scholastic Champion, CCC Favorite Son, 17 year old phenom, Expert
Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2125) was upset by 56 year old golf champion NM
Leland
"Jefe" Fuerstman (2031) (See Game
0336) who now shares the lead at
2.5-.5
with Michael "See You Are; See You Are You" Curcuru (1964)
who outplayed S.C. Expert Keith "Chuck" Eubanks (2060).
Meanwhile, Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (1924) survived a
botched operation by Dr Gerard "the Butcher" Sztyber (1748), Clarke
"Kent" Brosi (1829) chopped down Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi (1720) and
the CCC's #1 player, current N.C. State Champion,
NM Frankie "Blitz" Newton (2316) split the point with NM
Daniel
"Schlecter" Liu (2017) (See Game
0335). In the "B" Section,
Danesh
"DD" Dadgar (1657) savagely beat Michael "the Savage" Savage (1608)
to lead with 2-1.
In addition, Dave "Richman" Richards (1678) deported Slobodan
"the Mad Serb" Sinanovic (1706), "Iron" Mike Eberhardinger
(1698) went ferrous on the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1684) and
Ken
Ivens (1667) made peace with Jeremy Davenport (1557). In the
"C"
Section, Tim "the Chin" Chen (1491) bested Kert Edward
(Unr) to lead with 2.5-.5.
Also, Viktor "the Mad Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1541) beat down
Kermon Joel Lane (1540), "CEO" Mike Isner (1533) spanked 8 year
old phenom Joshua "Moo" Mu (1440), Kevin Huang (1409) outlasted
Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1494) and Winfred "Guns" Gatlin signed
an armistice with Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1522). In the Lower
Section,
Craig
"Alexander" Hamilton (1255)  is
attempting to amass 10 "Hamiltons" after his win over Robert Broadbent
(1133) to remain as the lone 3-0
in the tournament. Other Lower Section winners were: Thomas
Paradis, Clyde "the Glide" Plyler, Kaled Abdelkefi(See
Game 0337),
Michael "Clint"
Easterwood, Tony "the Tiger" Hicks,
Patrick

competitors from at least 3 states
journied to the Queen City in order to participate in Smokehouse
XLII.
In the Top Section, CCC Favorite Son, 2003 NC Scholastic
Champion, Daniel "Johnny" Tapia (2124)  dispatched
of Ken "Beans" Baxter (1900), eeked out a draw versus Keith "Chuck" Eubanks
(2044) and finally bested Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2029) to score 2.5-.5
and share =1st-2nd Place with underdog Sulia "Brick" Mason
(1781) who
Drew NM Leland "Boss" Fuerstman (2031), knocked off James "Big" MacDougall
(1817) and finally upset Expert Keith "Chuck" Eubanks (2044) (See
Game 0329). Each took home $75.
In the Middle Section, Gil "John" Holmes (1683)
reeled off wins against Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi (1720), Viktor "the Mad
Ukrainian" Ozherelyev (1550) and Ken Ivens (1667) to score 3-0
and pocket $100.
Equal 2nd-5th with 2-1
and winning $12.50
each were the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1668),
Adam
"Jesse" James (1659), Tarokh "the Oak" Taefi
(1720)
and Ken Ivens (1667). In the Lower Section, newcomer
Kert
Edward (Unr)
scored 3-0
winning $80.
Equal 2nd-3rd were Kevin Huang (1409) and Marnzell Hand (1600)
each with 2-1
winning $20.
